And like that, Club season has begun. The girls are prepping for a huge college showcase on the east coast early December. Cool thing about this pic, that’s my daughter with two of her teammates that she battled this season from Jesuit and Beaverton. Love seeing them back together.
Super! congrats to proud parents, I realize how much parents, work, cost and time goes into soccer for kids that are destine to play in college. My grandson(HS Junior Seattle) was in Sarosota Florida this last week at a big tourney. In the last couple months he's been in Texas, Kansas & Florida. He's looking at Gonzaga and Pepperdine
Very cool! Hope he lands where he is happy! Yes…. Crazy thing is how much WE and other club parents pay for this stuff. My deal with my wife is, she can never tell me how much. I’d lose my mind if I knew. We aren’t positive that she’s going to play D1 in college, but I know quite a few of her friends on her club team that won’t… And I just can’t imagine spending all this money, and them NOT getting into a D1 school with a scholarship. It has definitely been an interesting journey. And over Thanksgiving dinner had a fantastic 20 minute conversation with Coach Billups all about it. His daughter just graduated from Texas and she played in the same league as my daughter, so when I told him that, his eyes lit up! He said he misses it so much watching her play. I just got to know him the road trip before, so that was very kind of him. He even offered if I ever had any questions to get a hold of him or if my daughter wanted to talk to his daughter about the recruiting process they could hook up. Great guy!
So that Tennessee showcase in November really stirred up some interest from some new schools. A handful from the midwest. Also Wyoming wants her immediately to commit. She did some goggling and she says, "Dad, all the students look like they are on there way to a Trump rally!" HA! Thats my kid. Her club season started this past weekend and she had kick ass couple games up in seattle in front of Gonzaga and Boise State scouts. Western Washington in Bellingham wants to to commit asap as well. Looks like a great school in a beautiful setting, but the level of soccer might not be what she is used to. Really juggling what is important to her. Finding a perfect mix of quality education/right soccer situation and what we can afford.
So today I'm picking her up at noon and we are going on an OFFICIAL VISIT out on the bluff. UofP has shown a bunch of interest in her. Usually they don't invite you out to meet the players, sit in on team meetings and have the coaches sit down with the parents unless they are very serious about the student athlete joining the team. So lets just say my wife and I are probably more nervous about this afternoon than she is. She's been going to games and camps out there for years.
Sly, of we can do a GoFundMe here on S2 for my kid, it would be much appreciated. Or even better, you guys could sponsor her with the new NCAA Name Image/Likeness rules!
Yeah, that’s one thing about U of P…..they seldom, if ever give out full rides in any sport, regardless of gender.
One word - University of Portland (please don't accuse me of not being able to count) My great nephew would not accepting my and his father's advise to consider University of North Carolina, which also has a pretty good soccer program I believe, because he said they are very prejudiced against gay men. Good for him.
