This was good to hear. It is unfortunate that NO was allowed to persist in the organization for 10 years.
Her aunt died unexpectedly 2 days before the competition started, which certainly didn't help her cause. The Jordan talk missed that point. His first retirement came on the heels of his dad being killed. Sometimes us humans need a moment. STOMP
Many have opinions like this, have done zero research, and why the internet is bad. First, everyone should know by now that a magazine is not going to name anyone top anything without it being controversial. The goal is to sell, not justice. Second, she did not quit anything. Twisties for a gymnast is a real thing. Anything else that was going on in her life was secondary and not the reason she did not compete. I have not heard one former gymnast criticize her. Since they know a whole lot more than the keyboard heroes spewing nonsense, will take their word for it. When this originally happened, I had heard Dominique Moceanu talk about it. Then, I read her book and got better understanding of what these girls go thru. Guessing other parents did the same. Saw firsthand how messed up that whole situation is but did not fully realize how bad it was. I have zero regrets about my children not taking an interest in gymnastics and applaud all efforts to clean up USA gymnastics. Because of Biles using her platform as she did, it is going to make life better for thousands of kids.
You make a great case for TIME person of the year, not SI athlete of the year. Edit: Wait, it was TIME athlete of the year all along? I could've sworn the thread or replies said Sports Illustrated. I guess that makes it more reasonable, given the non-sports awarding source.
