No. 23 Seton Hall edges No. 7 Texas 64-60 for 2nd top-10 win

After getting overlooked in the preseason polls, Jared Rhoden and his Seton Hall teammates decided to do something about it — and they have.

Rhoden scored 18 points and made the go-ahead basket as the No. 23 Pirates knocked off their second top-10 team this season, beating No. 7 Texas 64-60 on Thursday night.

Aiken, Rhoden lead No. 23 Seton Hall past rival Rutgers

Jared Rhoden raised eyebrows at Big East media day when he said he felt Seton Hall was one of the best teams in the country.

The unranked Pirates were picked to finish fifth in the conference by the league's coaches, but it turns out Rhoden might be right.

Bryce Aiken scored 22 points and Rhoden had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead No. 23 Seton Hall past Rutgers 77-63 on Sunday night in the Garden State Hardwood Classic.

Creighton finishes strong, knocks off No. 9 Villanova 79-59

Not much was expected of Creighton this season, not with its roster full of newcomers.

The Bluejays might be better than thought, judging by their performance against Villanova on Friday night.

Ryan Hawkins scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures, and the Bluejays closed with a flurry in a 79-59 victory over the ninth-ranked Wildcats

Durham scores 17, No. 21 Providence rolls past DePaul 70-53

Forward Justin Minaya realizes the target will grow as the wins pile up and No. 21 Providence climbs in the rankings. The Friars are staying locked in for now.

On Saturday, Providence eliminated any suspense early, getting 17 points from Aljami Durham and burying DePaul with a dominant first half to win 70-53.

No. 22 Villanova edges short-handed No. 15 Seton Hall 73-67

Villanova coach Jay Wright isn't a big fan of playing on New Year's Day. It takes away from celebrating the night before and facing a tough and physical Seton Hall is never fun, even when they are shorthanded.

Justin Moore hit a go-ahead jumper with 1:36 to play and No. 22 Villanova dominated inside and hit late free throws to post a 73-67 victory over gutsy No. 15 Pirates on Saturday.

Late free throw helps Marquette top No. 20 Seton Hall 73-72

Marquette showed it doesn't need to shoot at a ridiculously high percentage to beat a quality opponent.

Greg Elliott made a tiebreaking free throw with 1.8 seconds left, and Marquette withstood a long second-half drought to beat No. 20 Seton Hall 73-72 on Saturday for its fourth straight victory.

No. 14 Villanova hits 12 3s in 82-42 romp over Butler

Jay Wright heard hollering from the Villanova fans who lingered at a bar near his postgame news conference and the Hall of Fame coach needed a score update.

    "Who's up?"

It was bad news for Wright — the Philadelphia Eagles were losing a playoff game.

His only worry of the day was the fate of his favorite football team. The team he coaches, well, a 40-point victory romp was the outcome he wanted most.

Collin Gillespie hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points, and Justin Moore scored 15 points to lead No. 14 Villanova to its sixth straight win, 82-42 over Butler on Sunday.

No. 25 UConn beats Butler 76-59 in first of home-and-home

UConn coach Dan Hurley thought Adama Sanogo had an off night.

The 6-foot-9 sophomore scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds on Tuesday in the No. 25 Huskies' 76-59 win over Butler, the first of two games this week between the programs. But Sanogo made just six of his 14 shots and missed several layups.
