No. Not close. Chauncey’s brother has coached and paid some dues. He played and then rose up (probably somewhat due to his last name), but he still did it. He was a GA, as assistant, and HC and then scouted for the Bucks. Blevins scored 11 a game at Montana State and was a HS honorable mention all league player. That’s it. Now he’s in year two of the NBA. It asinine

I went to a bunch of HS games at the Les Schwab tournament this weekend. Blevins would not be one of the top 5 players there.

When they decided to go with Billups, I think many in here felt it would take a couple years to get the kind of players he wanted and address the defense, especially in the back court. Now with a new gm things could change for the positive in order to build around Dame.

Look at the timelines people... there's more than just the Chauncey connection. Rodney played at University of Denver at the same time Cronin was a graduate assistant.

People judging Billups now already had their minds made up before game 1.

If you think you can properly judge Billups with this team and without a single move being made, you're wrong. Plain and simple.

I love how a bad joke I attempt here turns into a serious discussion about Chauncey's experience as a coach

Do you really think it’s just a player issue and not a coaching issue though?

I don’t know… On one hand I agree that a move is needed.

On the other hand I really do question how much of it is coaching. Offensive production hasn’t been great. It can be tough to tell one from the other.

I guess instinctually I just feel like this team would legitimately have a better record through these games if Stotts were still coach.

It's a roster issue. I won't judge Billups until it's fixed. Stotts had ran his course.

It..... doesn't seem like that he's a good coach

So you’re saying it wasn’t a “Roster Issue “ when Stotts was coaching?

I’m interested is seeing if Chauncey has been watching and working while out?
Again this thread is more about what changes he can make and what needs to be done to coach better. He’s got my support and I would love to see him grow as a coach.
Brooks obviously is not doing well at all with the players he has available.
Saying “it’s a roster issue “ seems like people were not paying attention for the last three years.

wait a minute....you might need to define "judging" in this case

if people are judging based solely on record...yeah, that's premature

but making smaller, more specific judgements is fair. How are his substitution patterns? Does it look like he's holding people accountable, like he promised to? Does his defense blitz picks and screens too much? Did taking Dame off the ball work or was it a failure?

I thought it was well past time for Stotts to be fired. But he was also made the scapegoat for numerous and repeated Olshey failures. The mess Portland is in right now is on Olshey....as it has been for years. It's also on ambivalent ownership. Billups isn't to blame for the mess, but he sure hasn't shown a lot to instill any confidence he's a good coach. For damn sure he shouldn't have been given a guaranteed 5 year contract, not with his coaching experience.

This team looks defeated, for all his faults, Terry 's teams never looked that lackluster for an ongoing period.

And this is working out so much better?
Pretty soon people will be saying anything is better than Billups.

Can good/great coaches only coach a certain style with certain players or can they coach different players, and groups? I mean everyone knows a coach has ideal rosters who fit his or her ideal style, but what if things aren’t perfect?

Usually a good or great coach can get the most out of what he has to work with.

Probably time to bring this thread back? Billups has now got his roster changes and he seems to be implementing a new brand of ball on the team.
We can see better game management and we do see Lillard being used differently.
They lack size for sure. Billups seems to understand that and has adjusted pretty well.

The Blazers now have their Draft Pick all complete and I like the way he is using Sharp. To me it's just enough and not too much.

I think i also like the way he is Using Roy Rogers as his defensive assistant. It's been good for Nurk.

Blazers have a tough next 10 games. They might struggle a bit.
