So we give up almost 38 PER and get back only 27? I wish people would think their trades through rather than just seeing if the salaries work.

If they were getting Lillard I doubt they will argue over picks in the mid 20's.

While I don't think the Blazers are going to explore moving Lillard, I'd love to see the alternate universe where the Blazers hold the Sixers up for all that they're worth and see if Morey bites the bullet on that.

If Lillard asked, that is a good haul for him. Some posters said that would be a garbage trade for us in another thread. I think it is just about the best case scenario to jump start a rebuild. Maxey and Simmons are both good players. Not as good as Lillard. But younger, and we get assets from them.

Harden basically got 3 firsts and 4 first round pick swaps along with Levert and Jarrett Allen.

They wound up with Oladipo, not Allen or Lavert. Terrible trade by Houston.

Right. But those players did come from Brooklyn so they likely could have just taken those two in the picks. Houston apparently didn't want those players though.

Interestingly, we only get better by 1 win, but the Lakers get better by 3. Okay....

IF we're going full tank/rebuild mode around Dame (with his blessing to try something new)

    Trade #1

    tradenba-snap-1641096807838.png

Bulls: RoCo would be a good fit on a team with elite perimeter defenders like Ball and Caruso.

Wizards: Get a wing in exchange for someone who hasn't played in two years.

Warriors: Apparently are interested in Nurk. He'd thrive in that system and be an immediate upgrade over Looney. Imagine the screens he'd set for Steph and Klay.

Blazers: Get under the tax. Get some young players for two guys that could leave after the season. Get their 1st back which allows them to once again trade future 1sts.

A 5th team that wanted Snell for a 2nd round pick or something could be added to take care of the remaining roster spot issue.

    Then trade Norm:

    tradenba-snap-1641098779816.png

Celtics: Get a guard who would space the floor for Tatum and Brown and would probably play better defense on a more balanced team.

Blazers: Get cap relief, a young asset, and what will most likely be a mid 1st round pick.

    Then CJ:
    tradenba-snap-1641100734846.png

Timberwolves: Not sure if they'd do this, but in theory find a 3rd team that thought they could get the old Fournier back and had an expiring close to his contract.

Knicks: Finally get a playmaking guard. They have two extra 1sts in both of the drafts they're trading picks from so it doesn't really hurt them too bad.

Blazers: Get huge salary relief and more picks.

    2022 Off Season:

    Players under contract
    Damian Lillard
    Larry Nance
    Nassir Little
    Greg Brown
    Moses Moody
    Aaron Nesmith
Kemba Walker (Would give him away for free if another team wanted him)

Total Salary including Nicholson dead cap: $77,454,705
Total Salary plus Anfernee Simons' cap hold: $89,271,159

Projected Salary Cap for 2022-23: $119 million

So we'd go into the offseason with a likely top-5ish pick (assuming we don't get unlucky in the lottery), two additional mid-1sts, all our future picks tradeable again, and an extra 1st in 2023. Also the possibility of up to $30 million in cap space (minus roster holds and draft picks, fluidity though). Now you may be thinking why would Portland want cap space when no free agents come here? Well, with those kinds of young players, draft capital, and cap space they'd be able to get any player(s) they coveted that were slightly available in a trade. Then fill in the roster around whatever player(s) they get. Get lucky with a top-3 pick and they have a chance of adding a 2nd star better than anyone we could currently trade for. Risky for sure but I have it on good authority that Dame sees what CP3 has done in his mid 30's and thinks he could do the same with a young team. If he needs ab surgery have him get it now and pull the chute.

I am beginning to wonder where the fine line between embracing the idea of a better draft pick vs making a trade to "make us better" which really translates to a push for the play in game. Doesn't seem possible to do both so essentially it makes me think that logic says we don't make a major move before the deadline to instead get a better pick and then make a move this summer. Not sure if I agree or disagree with that thought but it sure feels like the direction we are headed.
