Yeah, but the Magic currently have Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony, RJ Hampton, and Jalen Suggs all under contract next season. Their needs could of course change but that doesn't seem like a situation where they'd overpay for another guard.

You are right in that they loaded with young guards. The Sixers are as well w/ Thybulle, Milton, Maxey, & Curry. Why would they be interested in an overpaid guard in CJ?
I do agree, unless they include or trade other guards either team may not be enamored with acquiring CJ.

Would you consider CJ for Porzingis?

I mean, if Philly really wanted CJ he'd probably be a 76er by now. I do think CJ is different than any of those guards you listed though.

I'd consider it, sure. I'd probably try to find a 3rd team though.

    RoCo to Dallas

    Moses Brown/filler to Portland

That’s his trade value currently — Moses has potential

CJ & Curry to me are very similar type players.

Of course not. Just some pieces that would fit that would still help Portland Lux Tax situation.

I got a question. Let’s say we keep our pick this year. Could we trade it? Could we trade it conditionally now at the deadline? I’m thinking a Roco, CJ, and a lotto pick for Simmons has got to be more than acceptable. Not even sure I’d offer it, just wondering.

Can't trade it conditionally. We can trade it the second we draft someone with it, however. So, we'd have to make the pick, and trade the rights to...

Ok. Shut down Dame and increase Ant and Nas’ minutes.

Deadline: trade Powell for a younger wing/pick. Maybe Roco too. Dip the tax so we have the full MLE in the summer

Draft: CJ and lotto pick for Simmons, Siakam, etc.

So a mini reset and come back next year with at least a more balanced squad.

How about both lotto pick and Ben?

    Shutdown Dame.

The key is getting our pick back from Chicago. RoCo for DJJ and our pick back (just gotta find a team to take DJJ for unwanted crap since we can't take him).

Then trade Norm for an okay young player, expiring contract(s), and a 1st. Something like Nesmith and a 1st or Naz Reid, Taurean Prince, and a 1st (doesn't have to be those but you get the idea, but for the sake of discussion let's roll with the Minnesota one).

Then we could offer something like CJ and 3 1sts (Our 2023 and 2025, and Minnesota's 1st) for Ben Simmons.

Edit: Maybe convince Ben that his mentals still need time to get right.

Next year we'd have Dame, Ben Simmons, Lotto Pick (higher the better), Ant (re-signed), Nance, Nas, Naz, and GB3 under contract. We could either keep Nurk and re-sign him or deal him at the deadline too, doesn't really matter. That's 7 rotation players without Nurk or 8 with him. Sign best possible free agent with the MLE and fill the holes with smart minimum contract signings.

Not sure it's a good look to trade Norm after pushing him to resign here.

From Sam Amick. Atlanta were one of the teams interested in Powell at last years deadline, at least according to Fischer. Would love to get reddish or hunter.

I would think if Portland finishes out of the playoffs they can trade it then because of the protection. I believe teams can make trades once their season is over although I'm not sure about any moratoriums between the end of the season and the draft

You would have to pay a lot. We can't ban King reach-a-round. Unless you want to start giving us all reach-a-rounds in his absence.

As of right now, we can't trade a 1st round pick until either our pick conveys to the Bulls, there is another trade changing the protections of said pick, or until after the 2023 draft when 2030 picks become tradeable.

Like RR7 says, once a player is drafted, the rights can be traded without any sort of limitations from the Stepien Rule.

yeah, I spaced the rule against trading consecutive picks

obviously, if Portland has a lottery pick they can put a trade in motion well before the draft and just complete it on draft day

What type of players make sense to go after if we're shutting Dame down for a year? Young players? Players in their prime on medium to long-term contracts? Players that fit with Anfernee and Dame?

I'd like us to try to ship out CJ (like everyone else) and Roco, and I'd really like to bring back players like Jerami Grant, Marcus Smart, or Davion Mitchell. Pipedream is Pascal Siakam. We can let them try to score and expand their games with the balance of this season (and develop chemistry with Simons, bring a defensive edge to the team, etc.). Then in the offseason we can make big a decision on whether Nurk fits and consider moving our pick (which should be in the lottery) for more firepower.
