Carr mentioned it changed the situation, so a tie game could have happened. So there was more than 2 options.

Carr also said ""We knew no matter what, we didn't want a tie."... He was talking out of both sides.

A tie could've happened after the timeout. Techincally a Raiders win, Chargers win, and tie were all on the table until it was 0:00.

Herbert has one or two more years with chances to have as stacked of teams he could hope for. Once he gets paid 50 million+ a year. His team will be hurting in many other spots.

Correct, but to add more to the conundrum, the raiders head coach was saying his sideline was discussing a tie, but the timeout made him want to see what his team could do and they got a decent play after so he was fully on the win plan after that. Before he was more content on a tie though probably at a small %, but after that run he was all in on the win train. Which I agree on going for the win.

Yeah that's interesting. I'm not sure he wasn't playing for the tie after the timeout either. They did a fairly basic run play, which I'm guessing they were doing before, but the result prevented the Chargers from calling a timeout and putting the Raiders in a tough spot.

It's tough to take what any player/coach says after the fact because their story is going to be told in order to make them look as good as possible.

Probably unlikely, but Herbert might be one of the few NFL players who is willing to take less money in his prime for a better chance to win. He stayed at Oregon an extra year when he was already a top 5-10 pick. The guy isn't motivated the same way a lot of other NFL QBs are.

That's one option. An option most guys take, but I don't know, I have no sources close to him.

If he was all about money, he would've left Oregon a year earlier. His agent will want him to take the money. The NFLPA probably wants him to take the money. The Chargers don't want him to take all the money. What will Herbert want? I don't know.

When one play can end your career you take all the money you can when it's offered.

I 100% get that theory and I believe that is what you'd do. I'm speculating what Herbert will do. Only time will tell!

They were going to kneel it in a trips formation? That would be a first.

I'll gladly bet that he won't get as much as the NFL allows on a contract. That's an easy win.

I'll put my beer on the mouse pad Bones Jones will owe me as soon as the playoffs start.

Herbert will take a boat load of money. It is his first big contract. If he doesn't win anything after taking it, maybe he takes less to put pieces around him.

Tick tock tick tock. Two more years for him to step up and get a win with a low salary and room to add pieces around him. Mahomes might even make the super bowl and won again while we wait. Oh. And close to Mahomes worst year was while he was being paid a lot so their team suffered in filling out the defense. It was still comparable to Herberts year. Yet, he made the playoffs and won the division.

    Pretty close.

But Mahomes first year starting with 50 tds and 12 interceptions puts Herberts season to shame.
