    huh?

that analogy about flying a plane doesn't make sense. We're not talking about a bus driver flying a plane....just driving for a different bus company

this is pretty much a dead discussion anyway. From the Supreme Court all the way down thru most states, NIL for college athletes is now established law. Any rules the NCAA tries to implement will be subordinate to federal and state laws.

I'll predict something else too: if the NCAA tries to adjust the immediate eligibility rule for the transfer portal, it will be challenged by lawsuit and lose in the courts. If a player is eligible for NIL, and they clearly are, and their NCAA careers are short term, and they clearly are, then the NCAA should not be able to force players to lose a year of NIL opportunity because of transfer to another school.

I'll say again, if the NCAA model is dependent on the indenture of NCAA athletes, it will die a deserved death

yeah, that article I linked had a lot of NCAA people saying the NCAA days are numbered. I think college sports are going to become fragmented and layered

the Duck men's BB team has a 48-13 halftime lead on Washington. A 35 point 1st half lead is pretty uncommon

in case you're not keeping track, that's the Ducks at 37-4 over the last 41 games in the three sports

but the Huskies have "academically prowess"

Ducks beat Beavers tonight 78-56. Richardson and Young had good games. Ducks had 8 blocks. Williams much more selective with his shots, 6 for 7. Beaver only positive: they only lost the second half by 3 points.

College football signing day is this Wednesday. Some of the big names in play for the Ducks are OL Dave Iuli, DT Christen Miller, DB Jahlil Florence & RB Jordan Bryant-James. Should be fun!

I think Florence & James are probable. I think the Ducks have a less than even shot at Iuli; maybe a 35-40% chance (math directly from my colon). Almost no chance of Miller at this point (which explains yesterday's signing of the Nebraska DT from the portal, and by the way, he is exactly the kind of NT in a 3-4 alignment that Lanning is used to)

Ducks should also sign Trejon Williams, Khamari Terrell, Justius Lowe, & Kawika Rogers. Maybe Jaelyn Davis-Robinson although the Ducks may have pulled the offer.

Ducks may or may not still be looking at Emar'rion Winston (may have pulled the offer), and tried to get Arlis Boardingham (probably going to Florida)

and the Ducks are still one of 3 teams that are courting 5-star OT Josh Conerly. Michigan had been the favorite but Harbaugh interviewing with the NFL Vikings may have knocked them out of it. It might come down to Oregon vs USC

Florence committed! Impressed with new coaching staff and selected them over USC. Like the new DB coach from Colorado.

Tony Tuioti, the new Duck DLine coach from Nebraska probably had more to do with the Jordan Riley add then Lanning. He has size (6'5 325) and the same first name as UG's awesome & massive Jordan Davis, but he played all of 63 defensive snaps last season and was credited with 7 tackles. I'm not aware of any injuries. Not having seen him play but going off what his role was on a mediocre Nebraska team, I see him as depth behind Popo and UW transfer Taimani. Miller let it be known today that he's not going West, so that means the DLine is probably set.

Stoked that they landed Florence as expected. James looks to have said thanks but no thanks to UG and will be joining the Duck flock bolstering the depth in the RB room. The D looks pretty loaded going into next year though I would love to see Lanning pull another stud LB out of his hat. For the offense, the predictions for Iuli are trending towards going East to join Mario's power run game but we shall see. Agreed that stud LT Conerly has factors trending our way but that will play out over the next month plus.

you may be right...time will tell

I'm a member of a Duck website and there was a former Oregon player who had a couple of recent posts. One was talking about the private zoom cal Lanning had with about 200 former Duck players. The other was talking about Chip Kelly:

"Without going into details, it was an amazing call and there was almost 200 alumni on it. Coach is so relatable, humble, and his history proves his work ethic. If anyone had doubts about Lanning, throw them in the trash! He is a significant upgrade from Mario in my opinion (can't get worse for in-game coaching) and almost all of us were ready to run through a wall for him and the school after the call!!! Attacking defense, no more bend don't break BS!"

"Chip basically cut off all of the alumni from the program, we weren't even allowed to watch a practice. Fans love Chip for his wins, not speaking for everyone but a lot of ex-players don't have much respect for him besides his success on the field. Fans also forget that Chip left us with sanctions that hurt us for years after. Yeah Chip had a no BS approach to life and love how he changed the game and helped boost Oregon, but he did a ton of damage to the program and the relationships with the alumni and that should be a part of his legacy too..."

I don't have the connections I used to have but I have heard that there were some influential boosters that were not happy that Rob Mullens actually talked to Chip this time around, even though the talks were never serious

it was more a pro forma contact to a potential candidate just as part of due diligence. Much like the talks with Josh Wilcox. Ducks may have made an offer to Wilcox but it came with enough attachments and requirements he couldn't accept. That was deliberate so as to satisfy alumni like Joey Harrington and Akili Smith. Akili made an ass of himself in twitter spaces by the way
