been a lot of chatter about Blazer cap-space next summer, so I thought I'd do a 'as-it-stands-now' look at it: Damian Lillard $42,492,492 Eric Bledsoe $3,900.000 Justise Winslow $4,097,561 Keon Johnson $2,681,040 Nassir Little $4,171,548 Greg Brown III $1,563,518 Andrew Nicholson $2,844,429 Jusuf Nurkić $18,000,000(cap-hold) Anfernee Simons $11,816,454 (cap-hold) Ben McLemore $1,766,970 CJ Elleby $1,966,970 (qualifying offer) Josh Hart $12,960,000 (non-guaranteed) Nickeil Alexander-Walker $5,009,633(team option) Didi Louzada $1,876,222 Blazer 2022 first round pick $4,000,000 (estimate) $118,946,837 Wait a minute says I....where is this 60M number coming from? if Portland renounced Hart, McLemore, Elleby, and NAW they'd clear 20M of that guarantee away. that would put them at 99M. But they accrue two roster charges putting them at about 101M. With a 121M salary cap that would leave them 20M in cap-space. That's a long way from 60M maybe the Blazers can re-sign Nurkic for 12-15M first year salary. That would give then 23-26M in cap-space. Trading him now for an expiring contract would bump the Blazers up to around 40M in space
We talked about this in this thread. http://www.sportstwo.com/threads/neil-olshey-erased.373215/ The 60 comes from renouncing everyone of our non-guarntees, all our exceptions, AND Nurk/Ant. it's completely unrealistic.
I didn't know where else to put this but this is what I have. After the Ingles trade that cleared a little more than 5M more of salary going into free agency. So as I see it, if we renounce the cap holds on everyone and don't pick up Hart's and Bledsoe's options, right now we have just under 62M in salary and 5 players under contract. This includes what would be 7.6M in dead cap money. Basically according to Spotrac, as of right now we would have just over 41.9M in cap space but that number already has minimum cap holds deducted from it for the remaining 9 roster spots. I'd like to keep a running total of this so when all of the smoke clears tomorrow afternoon we have a good idea of just how much space Cronin has created because obviously despite our history of not being able to get free agents, Joe is putting all of his eggs in the basket of cap space. It is important to note that the cap space would not have to be used only by signing free agents which hasn't proved to be fruitful but also in unbalanced trades. We also have the 20M TPE that we could use after exhausting the cap space.
These are our books on July 1. Dame 43 Nurk (caphold) 18 Hart (partial guarantee) 13 Ant (caphold) 12 Nas 4 Winslow 4 Bledsoe (non-guarantee) 3.9 Nicholson (ughhh) 2.9 Johnson 2.7 Louzada 1.9 Brown 1.9 Elleby (caphold) 2 Hughes (caphold) 2 Watford (caphold) 1.5 That's about 113 mil, with a possible cap of 120 mil. Essentially meaningless capspace. But if we renounce everyone including our exceptions, we'd have: Dame 43 Winslow 4 Bledsoe (non-guarantee) 3.9 Nicholson (ughhh) 2.9 Johnson 2.7 Louzada 1.9 Brown 1.9 About 60 mil in capspace. Just bringing back Nurk, Hart and Ant (which is probably most reasonable): Dame 43 Nurk (caphold) 18 Hart 12.9 Ant (caphold) 12 Nas 4 Winslow 4 Bledsoe (non-guarantee) 3.9 Nicholson (ughhh) 2.9 Johnson 2.7 Louzada 1.9 Brown 1.9 That is about 107 mil, with about 15 mil of capspace.
Nurk and Ant will be signed with bird's right so we can go above the cap to sign them. They will be the last players to sign after we used up all our cap space first. So we have about 45M.
that's only possible if we retain their 30 mil in capholds. How do you get to 45 with that? Even if we renounce Hart and the others, the max you're getting is like 30.
hey, only one guru in here. I might be super old and dealing with some memory issues, but I can still drive and shoot a deer at 300 yards. I also can still feed the kitty whenever!
Great stuff on showing the books gents. Remember, if we do want to keep Nurk, we sign him right away. He will not be paid his cap hold of $18 mil, so give him a modest raise to $14 mil and have $4 mil of the cap hold removed to use in free agency. The opposite would apply to Ant. He will be paid more than his cap hold, so you sign free agents using the cap space up to Ant's cap hold, then sign him. You can go over the cap resigning your free agents with Bird rights. And local sports talk here in Phoenix are concerned Portland wants to target Ayton.
you can drive and shoot a deer 300 yards away? may i ask what forests are you driving in that provide 300 yards of clearance to not hit trees while shooting at deer?
I'm not positive (not as much up on cap stuff as I used to be, not like guru) but I think there's a way around this. Trade Nurk now for something expiring (or a cheaper long-term piece) and bring him back on the NTMLE (4/46 or so) after we fill up on FAs (now, who's available is a different question, but I see what Cronin's trying to do). Now the team's at 33M or so in space even with Ant's hold, then after you sign the FAs you sign Nurk. Also, it'd be really cool to do a challenge swap and get Halliburton for Ant. But with Brogdon there I just don't know. I'm a bit irrational over Halliburton.
