I swear I thought of acquiring Ingles just as a solid veteran voice. Also because he's Australian... like Ben Simmons.

I still think he is aiming for end of season. The only solid asset we have left is what we hope is a high lottery pick; he can't do anything to mess up the tank.

What if we are looking to trade him but Dame is doing us a solid and not demanding a trade so we can get good value?

If that were the case, why would Dame allow us to win the trade taking all of his new team's shiny assets?

Ingles is a salary dump. Plain and simple.

I went to the Jazz game in December. Ingles was flirting with an unattractive woman near courtside for about 20 minutes after his shootaround.

And it would cost tens of millions and set back putting his own stamp on the team by two to three years. We're doing it beforehand.

the CJ trade got quite a bit worse with news about the secondary 1st to Portland if the Pels pick doesn't convey this season

His game isn't predicated on athleticism. I see no harm in keeping him around if his contract remains reasonable. I feel like he was already considered too old when he first broke into the league.

I guess it depends how much Utah is willing to pay him, but it's hard to imagine his salary jumping up considerably after the injury and already seeing his role somewhat reduced. With how little we have committed going forward, a $13M/yr guy on a short contract doesn't sound like a bad thing.

By that reasoning, keeping Dame doesn't make sense, either. If they're going to build around Dame, they need players that fit well around him immediately, not a few years down the road when he's declining.

What happens to the Pelicans pick if it doesn't convey this year? Do we get the Pelicans pick in 2023 ? Protected? Unprotected?

I thought the CBA prevented a team from re-signing a player they have traded for a full calendar year?

I would not pay that much to a guy that comes back from an ACL injury at an advanced age. This smells like a Festus Ezeli idea.

The Blazers seem to be in a mixed mode - give it one more try to build a contender around Dame while keeping some promising bits if it fails for a longer rebuild. That's not the kind of rebuild that calls for a $13m veteran coming of an ACL injury. This is the kind of purchase you make the year after if the quick rebuild around Dame shows signs it can be a contender.

I suspect that if we do not see that quickly next year, Dame will be traded for whatever they can get for him to rebuild around Ant, Nas, Nurk (or whoever they get for him if he is traded) - for a younger team.

Does that apply if they are a FA?

So the 1-year provision applies after being waived. After being traded, it's just the end of the season.

I wonder if they got ingles with the intention of flipping him. Could get more players for him than Satoransky. Just thinking out loud.

no....Blazers get Milwaukee's 2025 first round pick; and last I saw it was unprotected but Cronin allowed the Pels to add top-4 protection (not that it matters much)

I wonder if the Blazers gave Utah an assurance they wouldn't waive him if they can flip him
