What’s even worse is half those players aren’t as good as the players they just gave up and one of them is someone they just gave up.
    Wow?

you were trying to assign value of an 8th pick as just a few of the players selected at 8th. That's as appropriate as assigning the value of a 1st pick as equal to Olowokandi, Bogut, Bargnani, or Anthony Bennett; or a 2nd pick to Stromile Swift, Darko Milicic, Beasley, Thabeet, Evan Turner, or Jabari Parker.

the value is determined much more by who was available, not the player taken, because then you're just gauging by the draft fuckups

that's not a nerd thing; it's a simple logic thing

Late 2005 (the "Coach KP time") was pretty damn bad basketball to watch. I'll take a trying Blevins over a sulking Stoudamire. Remember Mo Baker and Richie Frahm closing out games?

I also recall late 2011-12 being hard to watch. At least then we had the lotto pick to follow, kinda like this year.

No that isn’t what I was doing.
I was simply saying the chances of getting a true impact player (Not simply rotational) is highly unlikely and that is what they will need to do now that they have given up and impact player (CJ) and two strong rotational players (Norm and RoCo) and have unproven players in their place.
I also said as they sit now they are in the 8th position and there have not been many Impact players drafted in the 8th position in the last 60 years.
I didn’t assign value or state anything about probability or even discuss the idea of players passed over.
When you did you made your case even worse. Because now you opened up the door to hundreds and hundreds of players instead of simply the 60 that have actually been taken with the eighth pick.

again...you are using just the 8th pick alone as a gauge for "impact players". That's a very arbitrary cut-off point that dismisses the potential of players available after the 7th pick. Nobody has said it's a sure thing. But if you discount free agency the two options open to Portland are trades and the draft. Since the Blazers are not a free agent destination draft picks are even more important

and at 8th, there's a 26% chance they move into the top-4. At 5th, there's a 42% chance. The 'average' slot of the 8th pick, after lottery, is actually 7th, not 8th. Blazers are currently only 1/2 game out of 7th; 1.5 games out of 6th; 2.5 games out of 5th; and 3 games out of 4th

And again you have made the stretch to anything after the 7th and that makes your odds even worse. Not sure how to say that any more clear but it’s not even the point I’m making from the beginning. You’re stuck on chances and your chances are even worse numbers wise.

Now as far as Free Agency???? Well Duh. Obviously that ain't happening. The Blazers organization including Lillard and CJ had to BEG Melo who was completely out of the league to come play here. They ain't gettin a FA.
    Trades??? Trade what? Nurk? Ha.
That leaves you with Draft. Total crap shoot and the 8th doesn't offer much over the last 60 years and it's even worse looking at it as after the 7th looking at 1000's of players in the last 60 years.
Maybe they should have thought about that?

They have played two games together. They lost to the worst team in the league at home and beat the Lakers so lets see how this all works out?
