Harden has peaked. He’s overweight and injury-prone. The Nets got one of the best defenders in the league, one of the best shooters, a rebounding beast of a center, and two first-round picks. Nets win the trade hands down.
This would be true if it was the same James Harden he tried to acquire from Houston for the same package 2 years ago. It ain't.
At least their games fit together. I don't think this will be a mess; I just also don't think it will be nirvana either.
I gotta tell you this fills me with rage that not only did we not get Simmons, not only did Morey get the perfect complement to Embiid without giving up anything other than Simmons who wasn't playing anyways but also the Blazers trades look EVEN WORSE now. Holy crap! The Nets won the trade hands down IMO in terms of fit and what flows from this. That said both teams are much, much better now. THIS is what a real trade looks like. God damn. Maybe we do need to blow it up. I see the Nets being in the finals and probably winning it all after this if KD, Kyrie, and Simmons are all healthy. Man all the assholes won this trade. Harden, Simmons, and Morey all end up getting what they wanted in a weird way. Yuck.
maybe but from Philly's perspective they traded Curry, Drumond, and a couple of late first round picks for Harden. Simmons was just salary filler who was never going to play for them again. That's a pretty good return for 2 role players
I agree with the below. I don't understand why wait when you have a chance to go for it now. From the players available nobody else would give them that chance for the next 1.5 years, only Harden. We have 100 threads about how to build a contender and we blame Morey for building a legit one in the 12 months he is in charge.
This was a bigger plus for 76ers and interesting for the Nets. Must have been a lot of pressure and feelings of under performance surrounding the Nets FO. Doesn’t seem like a bad trade for either team. Both could come away having benefited from it. But I think it’s more likely that we see Philly being the team talked about. Because if Harden ends up putting them over their hump then this trade will be credited for it. They were really getting nothing out of Simmons this year. Drummond is a bigger loss for them in that regard. So I’d say trading Drummond for Harden is a pretty solid deal for Philly in terms of how this trade improves their odds of competing this season. Drummond is a FA next year too I think. Another plus for Philly in this regard.
Number either of these guys haven't took anyone to NBA championships. Both players quit on there teams and Harden has done it twice now I hope that fool never win a championships. I think the nets won due to Simmons more team player then Harden plus a way better defender.
The amount of hate people have for Harden here is kinda funny. For people saying Harden hasn't taken his team to a title, he made it to the finals on a team. When is the last time we have been there? This is a good trade for both teams. Harden is the best player in the deal.
Seth was easily their biggest loss, dude started every game he played this season (45) and is averaging 15 ppg 4 apg and 3 rpg... obviously Harden playing the same position will offset those losses by quite a bit but Seth was the biggest contributor that they lost and for a team like the Nets who just don't have a lot of NBA rotation players on their roster, Seth is a huge get. We can make light of it all we want because Simmons hasn't contributed anything this year but this guy has all nba credentials and just last season was the runner up for DPOY. I know up until this point in his career he has operated a lot as the instigator of his team's offense but from here on out I hope his team plays him the right way. He's a freak athlete, he's listed at 6'11" with a 7 foot wingspan at 240lbs, he gets to the hole at will. This guy has to start being the roll man in a pick and roll and a cutter but one that can make the right pass at any time. This has been obvious for a while but he's had to play with Embiid. He will be better than ever in Brooklyn and as long as the vaccine mandates are lifted by playoff time, it's a really close race between the two teams in this trade for Eastern Conference supremacy, no offense to the defending champs.
Harden is the best player in the deal and that's why Morey had to pay up but make no mistake about it, Ben Simmons is the most valuable player in this deal. The guy is seven years younger than Harden and is locked up for the next three seasons after this one whereas Harden is most likely a UFA who in order to keep him you're going to have to give him a deal that in it's final years is like a Wall or Westbrook type of thing. That being said, if the Sixers win a chip this season or next, it will all have been worth it. Also Morey held out and got one of the two or three guys he wanted and the top guy he wanted out of the three I think... he might have wanted Dame more. Oh and I'm really hoping that the Sixers start Harden, Thybulle, Green, Harris and Embiid... that's a lethal lineup and allows Maxey to come off the bench for instant offense.
Morey is extremely lucky that Harden got disgruntled in Brooklyn. Think about all the things that had to happen to make this trade go down. I seriously wonder how long DM would have sat on Simmons if Harden doesn't fall into his lap. Right after the trade I felt like the Nets made out like bandits, then later in the night thought both teams did really well, but after sleeping on it I realized the ASSHOLES WON ... all three assholes in this scenario got what they wanted and that's sad.
Saw this referenced a few times, but it's shocking that Harden has yet to win a championship with the kinda teammates he's had: Durant - 2x Westbrook Howard in his prime Chris Paul Kyrie (sorta) now, Embiid.
