No. 6 seed Texas beats No. 11 seed Virginia Tech, 81-73, for first NCAA Tournament win since 2014

Exactly six years after losing to the Northern Iowa Panthers on a half-court heave, the No. 6 Texas Longhorns took some serious momentum into halftime when senior guard Marcus Carr banked in a shot from well beyond the half-court line.

“The end of the first half is always critical for any team,” head coach Chris Beard said.

In that moment, in making a shot that Carr said he practices nearly every time he’s in the gym, all the demons from the eight years between NCAA Tournament wins for the Longhorns seemed to dissipate and Beard’s team dominated in the second half for an 81-73 win over the No. 11 seed Virginia Tech Hokies in Milwaukee on Friday, the first win in the Big Dance since 2014.

Martin, Kansas hold off Creighton 79-72 for another Sweet 16

Remy Martin hadn't led Kansas in scoring all season coming into the NCAA Tournament.

The fifth-year senior transfer from Arizona State is 2 for 2 on the big stage.

Martin scored 20 points, Ochai Agbaji put the Jayhawks ahead for good with his first basket early in the second half, and Kansas held off Creighton 79-72 on Saturday to advance to the Sweet 16.

Martin scores 23, top-seeded Kansas beats Providence 66-61

Kansas' Jalen Wilson noticed the excitement on the other side.

The top-seeded Jayhawks went from leading by 13 in the second half to trailing Providence by a point with their season in danger of slipping away.

But the only No. 1 seed left in the NCAA Tournament responded to that brief challenge, stood firm and closed out a 66-61 victory on Friday night to reach the Elite Eight.

Extra Points reported that Division II Queens University of Charlotte, North Carolina is a potential expansion target for the ASUN as well as the Big South.

Future look: Campbell, Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Longwood, Presbyterian, Radford, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Winthrop

Wilson leads No. 5 Kansas to 82-59 rout of North Dakota St

Kansas did exactly what was expected of the nation's No. 5 team when the defending national champions played Omaha and North Dakota State to open the season: win in routs.

The stakes are about to get a whole lot higher with Duke awaiting in the Champions Classic.

Jalen Wilson had 21 points and nine rebounds, Gradey Dick added 12 points and MJ Rice scored 10 in his college debut on Thursday night, helping the high-flying Jayhawks roll to a 82-59 victory over the Bison in their final dress rehearsal before facing the No. 7 Blue Devils in Indianapolis.

No. 6 Kansas rallies late to beat No. 7 Duke 69-64

Jalen Wilson and Dajuan Harris Jr. provided a calm, steadying influence for No. 6 Kansas on Tuesday night. Jayhawks freshman Gradey Dick provided the late splash.

Together they extended the nation's longest active winning streak.

Wilson scored a career-high 25 points, Harris dished out a career-best 10 assists and Dick made three crucial baskets in the final 2 1/2 minutes to help the defending national champs rally past No. 7 Duke 69-64.

No. 21 Tx Tech holds Louisville to lowest score since 1948

Texas Tech's defensive identity was on full display against a Louisville team trying to find its way under first-year coach Kenny Payne.

The 21st-ranked Red Raiders held the Cardinals to their lowest point total in 74 years in a 70-38 victory in the Maui Invitational on Tuesday, a result that continued Louisville's worst start to a season since 1940-41.

No. 3 Kansas beats NC State in coach Bill Self's return

Bill Self couldn't wait to get started Wednesday at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Neither could hot-shooting Kansas rookie Gradey Dick.

Dick scored a season-high 25 points to help the third-ranked Jayhawks beat North Carolina State 80-74 in Wednesday's tournament opener, giving Self a successful return to the bench after a four-game suspension.

No. 3 Kansas survives OT scare from Wisconsin 69-68

Kansas' Bobby Pettiford Jr. stood all the way out near midcourt, almost on the Battle 4 Atlantis logo, when he saw his teammate launch a shot for the lead with only a few seconds left in overtime.

''I mean, I normally don't crash but that's the one time I get to crash,'' Pettiford said.

He sprinted all the way under the basket just in time to see a loose rebound pop to him. Pettiford then made a twisting reverse layup with 0.2 seconds left to give No. 3 Kansas a 69-68 win against Wisconsin on Thursday in a tournament semifinal game.

Caleb Grill, Iowa State topples No. 1 North Carolina 70-65

Caleb Grill has followed T.J. Otzelberger from South Dakota State to UNLV and now back to Iowa State hoping the pair could share a moment like they did Friday.

Taking down the No. 1 team in the country was another bookmark moment in a long journey for the pair.

''I'm actually really enjoying sitting next to him from this moment right now just thinking about how long we've known each other and how cool this really was,'' Otzelberger said.

Grill hit seven 3-pointers and scored a career-high 31 points and Iowa State rallied in the final five minutes to stun No. 1 North Carolina 70-65 in the semifinals of the Phil Knight Invitational.
