This is actually a good topic for an offseason thread. What players might suddenly become available after their seasons end? We know about Grant. We can add Randle as well to that list. A few FA's also could be looking at other destinations. But here are some others who I think might surface in discussions to change teams if their current teams flameout: - Jimmy Butler - Victor Oladipo (FA) - Jaylen Brown (I wish) - Tobias Harris - Siakam (another wish) - Zach LaVine (FA) - Kyrie Irving (FA) - John Collins - Bogdan Bogdanovic - Bradley Beal (FA) - Jalen Smith (FA) - TJ Warren (FA) - Gary Harris (FA) - Cam Johnson (I wish) - Dillon Brooks - Kyle Anderson (FA) - Draymond (would take a massive first round upset) - Utah Jazz ( that whole team is ripe for a blowup) - Zion (!) - Anthony Davis - Lebron (!) - Harrison Barnes - Christian Wood I think we need to step a bit out of this Jerami Grant bubble, and keep our options open. And I would wait to get the Simons/Nurk deals done in case we want to suddenly jump under the cap for some reason if S&T opportunities arise.
He can have a huge effect on games when he gets going. I just am shy about his injuries? Doesn't seem to stay on the court.
Yeah he is still young and was improving as the season went along. His hustle and defense do not always show up in the box score. As a 220 lb, SF with a 7'2 wingspan ihe can switch off on PFs and guards Both his turn-around jumper and his 3 pt shot were encouraging. And his juries are not the type that will affect him long-term. (covid, dehydration, thumb injury, sprained ankle, even a torn labrum) It would be short sited to get rid of him as he is just turned 22 and IMO has a high ceiling. I love his energy.
It's fair to be skeptical or even doubt Nas at this point. I'm optimistic he can put it all together because he's managed to show spectacular play in flashes in spite of being jerked around by Stotts after an up-and-down one year at UNC and then a plethora of weird ailments. We also have a couple of options to fill the 3 in case he doesn't get over the injuries, but, I think just coming into his fourth year with the massive upside he has, I'm not ready to give up on him just yet.
The team will almost certainly be better next year than it is now, but... I think this current team might be the worst NBA team in a decade. Selfishly, I don't want to see the team go for it next year. I think we're too far away, and we'll be mired in mediocrity rather than giving the franchise a chance to build properly for the future. I understand, though, that tickets need to be sold and not everyone has my long-term patience, so I unfortunately suspect we'll apply some bandaids to the roster, give up some valuable assets, and get knocked out of the first round in the playoffs after having no real chance to advance.
If we trade one our picks to acquire a very good front line 4/3 veteran, we may have to attached a guy like Naz?
It's not unfathomable to have a relatively quick rebuild if we retain the right pieces and make the right moves after bottoming out.
I see Ingles on another team and McLemore retained because he can be average any time he wants. With Dame back, I see him morphed into a motivated player.
Then what you are doing is trading Nassir Little and throwing in a pick. Now do you think you will get a "Very Good" 4/3 Veteran? Picks only have the value of "Hope" and "Faith". The actual player who has played at the NBA level is what you can gauge. Seriously i am in the middle of conversations on Twitter with dudes telling me because So and So has a wing span of 7 feet and a standing reach of 8 foot whatever this guy is going to be a great NBA player? Teams that think like this stay in the lottery.
It takes two teams wanting to deal and sure maybe no one is interested in the picks. Salaries are a challenge too with trades. Besides Dame we do have assets to reconfigure the roster but if a team is going to move form a legit "very good/star" 4/3 it will take a combination of assets of which we do have now.
Like denver did 2014. Pick in the 40's right out of the Green Room. Who was the last MVP picked in the 40's?
lol....there has never been an mvp that was selected in the 20's or 30's. Isnt his cousin in this draft?
I can see the Blazers making a run Bucks style. Milwaukee proved you don't have to have a bunch of stars, just one really good one and (the right mix of) a bunch of really good role players.
