I don't trust Jodi and the Vulcans but they can make an obvious choice that's a good one to determine the future of this club. If the new GM can bring back some good young pieces for Dame then we can be very competitive and very young.
It's Chicago but who the fuck cares at this point. I think this team has to go young now... I wasn't at all about that but we've got to get Dame somewhere that can offer us young players, picks and expiring contracts if necessary.
I don't care about Cronin staying or going. Literally. Yes, I'll take someone else's double digit lottery pick every time for the draftee or sent out in a trade. And it sucks that it didn't happen. However, since the tank began, it's been about the Blazers' pick. Still is. Cronin? Still don't care less than a minute later.
Just fire the guy. If the plan is to build around Dame 1 more time, hire a veteran GM. Same thing if you want to draft and go young. We need someone that knows how to run a team and not a cap guy like Joe (I think he was more of a cap guy, not sure).
Cronin and everyone else who served as a yes man for Olshey should be fired. Hell, they should be set on fire!
I really don't care what he was (for the record I'm pretty sure he started as a scout and while he was there he studied the CBA to the point he became a cap expert and they used him for that but mostly he was Neil's right hand man for like the last five years) what he is right now though is a fucking terrible interim GM that better never be the GM of this team.
You have to be A+ bad at your job to trade an Allstar level talent like CJ and not get a first round pick in return.
It doesn't have to be a veteran GM but there are some that aren't employed right now that could do a way better job. You can easily get assistant GMs from the Spurs, you could get whoever the assistant GM is from the Suns, the Bucks, the Grizz. This is 1 of 30 NBA GM jobs in the world, the list of qualified applicants isn't the problem. The ownership just needs to make a smart decision, nothing cute just a solid decision. Hell you could probably get a pretty good current GM that has a President of Basketball Ops if you offered them that gig and said they could hire their own GM and front office because I wouldn't mind letting all of these people walk that have been complicit in Neil and Joe's debauchery. There are a ton of people who have seen how easy it was to convince Vulcan to do bad moves that they know if they got the chance they would have the keys to the kingdom and not get good moves turned down.
It was clear as hell that there was a fire sale in Portland at the deadline and other GM’s took advantage of the interim guy who’s wet behind the ears. I say we blow it up. Keep Simons and Little and our draft pick. We really don’t have much in trade bait except Lillard who could net back a haul. But I’d trust another GM to do that
Heh heh. I don't think that's going to happen. Nobody this ownership group would bring in would be any better. And any assistant GM worth his salt would pass on this job until we get ownership figured out. The job is only 18 months and then you will be fired when the new owner brings their pres and GM in. We're stuck with Cronin until we get new owners.
A new owner won't care about that. You don't buy an NBA team for the next year or two. They'll want to build their own thing ASAP. The more experienced people here the longer that will take.
There are plenty that would take the job. The point is the team needs someone with experience and/or is someone that is actually being groomed to be a lead GM. Figuring out what is best move(s) for the team should not be decided by a greenhorn. Plenty of legit assistance that would love to take the job because it’s still a dream job. You can tell Cronin doesn’t have “it”.
