I enjoy Jaynes post at times, but he is wishy washy. I remember when he said trade Drexler, and Blazers got bumpkiss ( a washed up Thorpe in return). Then earlier this year on Rip City radio, Dwight doubled down on that by saying Thorpe was "Good" compensation. I was laughing my ass off. Hart can play. Thorpe was Gahbidge as a Blazer. And Otis played uninspired as well. I love Josh's tenacity on the court, and calling bullshit on Dwight's tweet.
100%. If someone came on here and said Cronin got the very best deal possible, I would question those people to. Your point is that there are so many unknowns: 1. What ownerships instructions were 2. What Dame is ok with (assuming they value his opinion) 3. What offers were actually on the table. To my knowledge, nobody knows the answer to any of those questions, so it's hard for me to come out and say there were better deals or not.
I'm pretty sure he left the Oregonian. But yet, I do like him on 1080. The way he keeps track of all of those recruits is amazing.
I do think the idea that Cronin could have leveraged the best of the Pels and Laker picks (both top-4 protected) from New Orleans is valid. Blazers weren't going to get Jones out of the deal (pipedream), and I doubt they could have even landed Hayes or Murphy; maybe the Clippers trade was a different matter though. But maybe only by degree. I don't think RoCo had a lot of value. I said last summer that a 5 year deal for Powell was not the positive asset many thought it was. Most teams don't want to be obligated to role players that long. Those two will add to the depth, assuming LAC re-signs RoCo, which may not be the case as for Nance, he was traded to the Pels when they had 28 games left to the season; he only played in 9. That's Nance in a nutshell
All this is possible. Again, I have no clue what was said, so it's hard for me to speculate. We obviously lost both trades big from a talent standpoint, but we reset most our significant salaries, which seemed to be the overall obective, but I don't know.
I think getting rid of the Vulcans is kinda the most important thing for this franchise. Once they appeared we've basically been horrible other than luck on draft picks. It's been mismanaged at every turn. Overspending at the worst possible time followed by being a cheapskate and/or risk-averse...also at the worst possible times. I can't wait for Jody to sell the team I'm 98% sure the Blazers stay in Portland so getting a new owner & out from under the Vulcan fucktards will be huge.
Dwight Jaynes is so invisible to me that every time I see the thread title I think it's about Josh Hart getting into it on the court with Dwight Howard. Because Josh Hart is that badass.
