https://clutchpoints.com/hornets-ru...d-miles-bridges-partnership-with-lamelo-ball/ One executive told me, “Bridges will get close to, if not the max, at this point. He’s 23 years old and a big wing. Those guys are so rare. If Portland can’t trade for Jerami Grant, they’ll probably look in Bridges’ direction.”
it will be really tricky. if we decided to acquire him in FA, we'd have to renounce Hart as well. And we'd tie up all our $ for 3 days while CHA can just wait to match. If we explore a S&T, Charlotte would have to take on Bledsoe and we'd have to deal with the nonsense that comes with BYC contracts. I don't think Bridges is very likely unfortunately.
Why would we have to renounce Hart. Couldn't we just sign Nurk & Anfernee afterwards. I don't see that as a smart move at all if that ( Renouncing Hart) has to happen. We can't be in the one step forward, 2 back biz.
Dame - 43 Nurk caphold - (18) Hart - 13 Ant caphold - (12) #6 pick - 5.4 Nas - 4.2 Winslow - 4.2 Keon - 2.7 Did - 1.9 Greg - 1.6 Watford 1.6 That's ~108 mil. Leaving you about 14 mil capspace. Renouncing Hart's 13 is essential to get somewhat close to the starting number for Bridges, if that.
So those capholds are set in concrete? Aren't they technically off the books when the league year starts.
not sure what you mean by this question, but to retain them and pay them money that would take us over the cap, we would need to retain their capholds. renouncing the hold (on Ant) would make him unrestricted as well and open up the chance for other teams to nab him without the ability for us to match.
Yes, i do believe that is the case. I remember Chad & Travis talking about it earlier. They have to keep the caphold to retain right to match.
Yeah, it's really tricky but if you sign Nurk to a deal that starts at 14M that would give you 4M more. If your math is correct that would be enough for a max deal for Bridges but I don't think you added in the 6.8M in dead cap money for Bledsoe and Nicholson and the two roster cap holds. I honestly would love to get Bridges and I don't think the Hornets would match a max offer but I don't see a pathway to freeing up that much cap space. Also I think if Cronin is still in charge that we'll do what we have to in order to get Grant and a rookie with a lotto pick. If we end up at 7 I could see the Spurs giving us the 25th pick to move up a couple of spots. Then I could see the Pistons taking the 25th pick and the Bucks 2025 first for Grant. I think Sochan or Dieng will be there... I'd much rather have Sochan but we'll see how that ages because little is known about Dieng and his highlights look pretty nice.
But then Cronin would have an excuse he tried to improve the team but the other mean GMs wouldn't let him do it.
If Joe Cronin was forced to have someone in his front office that he needed in order to make trades but then they consistently sabotaged trades, then this would be accurate.
Right now if we don't pick up the options on Bledsoe or Hart then we still have $65,190,392 in guaranteed money against the cap. Then you have Ant's cap hold at $11,816,454. You have our lotto pick's cap hold that will land somewhere in the range of 5-9M. I suggested that we quickly sign Nurk to a contract lower than his 18M cap hold... lets say something that comes in around 14M next season. That would put us at 10 players so another 1.6 in mandatory roster cap holds. We end up with on the low end 99M in cap commitments. That only leaves us 23M to offer Bridges and since we would be using cap space we would lose all of our exceptions... but it will take a max offer or near max offer or 30M+ to make the Hornets not match and they still might. We don't have a way of getting him unless it was through sign and trade or giving up Ant or Nurk... or Dame. So there's really no way to add him to what most of us see as the current core players that we'll have going into next season.
have to let Ant and or Nurk go to give Miles a payday. I dont think any team in the league will pay Nurk more than 12 a year given his health issues and lack of altheticism. Teams want Bams and Aytons and Mobleys. I like Nurk a lot but if it means getting really better, then yoy let him walk. I think you also look hard at sign and trade for Ant if that is possible. His value is the highest on the team behind Dame, easily. I like a Dame Hart starting at 1 and 2. Can the team afford to pay Ant 20 plus a year for no defense?
