Honestly, I'm kinda glad I will be at Depoe Bay, with no TV or computer, just a few books and a nice view of waves. I'm seriously considering doing something similar the day of the draft.
Just drove by there yesterday. I want to stay at the Channel House some time and watch whales swim by. We did stop for some taffy.
When Olshey was (finally) fired, they should have purged all his yes men with him. Instead, they promoted one of them to GM. I expect us to drop to 9 or 10 in the lotto - but even if we jumped to #1, I have zero faith anything good will come of it.
Why would that absolve him of being one of Olshey's cronies for the past nine seasons? It really doesn't matter because he's the guy now but make no mistake we have virtually the same front office as the one that we've had for a decade now. If you think that Olshey paid no attention to his front office and Cronin had no part in where we find ourselves (or rather found ourselves in February) then there is reason for untempered enthusiasm but if you think that the rest of our front office had any say in what went on during Olshey's administration then that should temper your enthusiasm that things are about to get much better and that we should expect extremely different results in player personnel movement than we've seen under Olshey. If you want to point out that Olshey never would have dumped Norm, RoCo, CJ and Larry like that, you might have a point but I hated those moves and they make me fear that Cronin will be even less aggressive in trying to make our team competitive and more of a yes man to the Vulcans as they try to make the team more desirable to future buyers. Let's hope my fears are misplaced and Cronin proves me wrong really soon here.
If you think dumping 3/5 of our starting lineup is less aggressive then nothing I can say will mean anything
he was a young guy coming off rookie of the year. That’s why I said up and coming guys usually go like Simons should have
He was aggressive in making a couple of "bean counter" trades. That doesn't mean he will be aggressive in "basketball" trades, or that if he is he will be good at evaluating talent. Outside of the CJ situation, Olshey was actually very aggressive. He tossed away 5 1st rd picks and Trent for Powell, RoCo, Nance, and Collins. That isn't being passive - that is being stupid.
Every season I predict the Blazers will go 82-0 so I don't want to jinx things by predicting our lottery pick.
