That's ignoring half the trade, we'd be adding Grant and a future 1st as well.

i'm in. That pick prolly falls in the 20s, but it would make up for us not having our own pick next yr if we make the playoffs.

    That makes it worse IMO.

Grant wants a $100m max extension.

Yeah, that extension would likely start at just 2M more than he would make this season. We'd probably want to extend Wood for a few years with a 1-2M raise as well.

I guess it depends on if you think a core of Dame, Ant, Grant, Wood, Nurk, Hart, Nas, Justise and young players could contend. If you don't then you don't do the deal but look at how well rounded that rotation is if you add a big in the draft and the way they fit. I think that is a contending roster especially if some of the young players pop. Remember that Grant and Wood have both been being asked to do too much being their teams' go to guys and in this situation I honestly couldn't tell you who the second option is out of all of the starters after Dame which is a great thing. I can tell you that it would be the best defense Dame has had around him since being here assuming Ant is better than CJ but also taking into consideration Hart, Nas and Justise coming off the bench. It would also be the most offensive weapons he has had to help him on that end.

Grant and Wood are way better than any Olshey acquisition IMO but if you think it's just another RoCo, Norm or Larry then I guess it would definitely be a bad deal but you might want to compare the pre-Blazers numbers of Grant and Wood to Covington, Powell and Nance before jumping to that conclusion.

Is Dame Grant Woods a contender? I'd say clearly no. We'd need Simons and likely another player to have a massive near all star level jump.

The idea isn't thinking about it as who are our best three players, the idea is we have the elite player in Dame and then we have a bunch of guys who can all go for 20 to 30 on any given night. A bunch of guys who can't be ignored on offense and in Grant, Wood and Nurk a few very high level defenders. Then looking at a bench led by Hart, Nas and Justise with young players that you hope get better... what you're doing is building a well rounded team around a superstar. For sure you're hoping that Grant and Wood are even more effective in supporting roles than they've been as featured players and that Ant continues his upward trend... in fact those things should be expected. Also with Grant and Wood shouldering less of the load offensively, they will probably be even better defensively.

But how would we integrate Collins and Grant into the lineup? That's a lot of money for two guys who play the same position... or do you think one of them can play the three?

Grant can for sure play the three. I actually think he's out of position at the four and it's why his rebounding is so anemic. He's definitely a perimeter player more than a post and is probably better guarding wings than post players.

Especially if we are seeking a roster where players have good size/length for their position, I think you hope to have Grant playing the 3. And really, what matters is whether he can defend the 3, and I believe he can.

sure seems like you'd say this about any suggestion because you're so invested in the idea that Portland's situation is hopeless

Dame-Simons-Grant-Wood-Nurkic with Hart, Winslow, Watford, Keon, an MLE, & two 6-7M TPE's could easily be better than any of the Dame/CJ teams, and maybe as good, if not better, than the Dame/Aldridge teams. And that team doesn't seem like a complete longshot either

He played very well against Jayson Tatum on both ends of the floor in Detroit's victory in Boston.

6’8” in shoes with a 7’3” wingspan is my idea of long athletic for his position. Assuming his position is SF

Fastbreak has us trading to Detroit: 7-EB & Keon for Grant & Corey Joseph

For the people that want Ayton what’s the difference between him and Duren? Besides age and salary? I guess Ayton is more proven, but he’s proven to be a 3rd or 4th best option on a lot of nights. I really don’t think the drop off from Ayton to Duren NEXT season will be that much.

Fuck no. I’d honestly stop watching till they sold the team and got a GM at that point.

I mean, it preserves the TPE and therefore if Houston was willing to accept future draft picks for Wood, it's the same result but it's still a pretty big overpay and I don't think that Houston would just take what we have in the way of future picks without us having to go through the process of guaranteeing Chicago our pick for next year by taking the protections off.

    What is fastbreak?

as I’ve said, I expect this to happen. It’s an overpay though.

If you can add Grant, it’s an upgrade right now over the 7th pick

I like Wood, Collins, Harrell, Grant. If you can somehow add one of each forward position from that group, we are better. Still nowhere good enough to compete, but right back where we started with more balance.

So maybe at the deadline or next off-season we can add a piece or two to get us to the next level?

    Not a 1 year fix

that's one of the things with Grant, he likely wants a big payday and IMO isn't worth it. At least a guy like Collins is on a decent contract IMO and locked up for a while and is still 24 so better value there if we do decide to trade Dame in a yr or so, I think thought has to be given to guys acquired in this "rebuild around Dame" strategy that also plans for the scenario it does not work and we need to trade Dame. Collins is a good asset (also shoots 3 ball well) in either case IMO, Grant is really not (29 now)
    double Fuck NO, awful trade

I kinda missed something earlier in this. There is no such thing as a $100m max contract. A max contract has certain requirements for Grant a max contract extension would be 5 years and ~200M.

The rumor is Grant is seeking as much as 112M over four years, that's an average of 28M per year and that's his opening bid. I think we could get him for a contract that averages 25M a year and starts at 23M that's 2M more than he will make this upcoming season. I think he would prove very quickly to be worth it. His numbers make it look like he's worth it.
