If that's what twitter turns into it'll be an abrupt end of its run, and it will quickly be replaced by something better.

Twitter is free to allow that kind of thing as long as it doesn't break the law. But it would be suicide to do so. It would quickly drop from 300 million users to under 30 million.

Don’t agree. And the damage - like giving a thumbs up to things like CIVIL WAR- will be done. It doesn’t matter of the platform drops down in subscribers (I don’t think it will, at all), if the 30m are his disciples and he promotes shit like this, we have bigger problems than the financial viability and performance of Twitter

Well, we know something like 20 or 30 million are his disciples, and they already listen to everything he says... He has already attempted an insurrection.

If the number of users drops significantly it will lose any ability to generate revenue. And if that's what it turns into I will certainly stop using it. As will millions of others...

Trump isn't going to go away until he loses in 2024. Or if he gets put in jail for the rest of his life.

What if he does neither? What if he jumps back on the biggest social media platform, fans the flames, keeps his base or grows it, and runs again….and wins? He is never going to jail. Ever. The only hope is he dies somehow.

But twitter isn't the biggest social media platform. Not by a long shot. He will die eventually.

And he will never win another presidential election. There will be another republican who opposes him and stays in the race. Which will be more than enough to guarantee he loses, even if he became more popular than he ever has been.

Trump is done, he just doesn't know it yet.

I mostly agree with you, but I have to mention... there is a lot of International Law that still hasn't been written. I'm not siding with @calvin natt but I have some other concerns. I like Elon as a innovator and hope he has the earth's best interest in heart, but he could be a super villain pretty quickly too!

Idk if you or anyone here has read this book, but I've linked it before. It's pretty insightful and sort of fascinating?

At least Musk understands that there's a possibility that we fail on the global scale and we need to get to a different rock to ensure our humanity!

Completely agree, Musk could easily get to villain status.

I don't think he's there yet, and I'm not sure he'll get there.

Thanks for the book suggestion. I need to check it out...

I do not think most twitter users want the platform to be more like 4chan, and I think they'll leave if it starts heading that way.

I'm not trying to say any of it is okay, but I've seen stuff on my google news feed from various publications along the same lines saying it's a Civil War. Whether it's the hate speech or again
Is there really any reason for 4chan, 8chan, and all that other toxic shit to even exist? Why don't they just DOS those places. I'm sure the NSA/CIA/etc. have enough zero days to do it.

They can't (at least not legally). Social media platforms are protected by Section 230.

I don't disagree with you, but if it were that easy ThePirateBay would have been taken down long ago.

Then there's always the dark web, which is where people would turn if they couldn't scratch this itch on the current web.

Good point. I'm not smart enough to know what to do.

Kind of unrelated but this has been a pretty wild story over the years... https://www.wired.com/story/silk-road-ross-ulbricht-debt-bitcoin-siezure/

It has, for sure. There are many replacements for silk road and have been for years. You're more than smart enough, it's just a question of if you have enough interest in it.

That's such a big story because it was the first of its kind, Ulbrecht tried to be an Al Capone type fugure, and the corrupt police behavior in trying to get the conviction, as well as FBI agents literally stealing millions in bitcoin for personal gain. And the judicial system overlooking the corruption of the officials to make an example of Ulbrecht.

I think he deserves what he's getting. He tried to have somebody killed.

This is another situation that we can't solve via prohibition. We have a system that encourages our leaders to force as much of the population as possible into desperation and rewards the bold, so we'll continue have things like this.

The only hope to get rid of it (other than addressing the real societal problems) would be giving the government Chinese style authoritarian powers.

I'm kind of good with what he's saying there... I can't really think of the down side...
