Peace Advocates Sound Warnings as Progressive Lawmakers Go All-In for $40 Billion Ukraine War Package "Russia's invasion of Ukraine must be condemned," says one activist. "But the administration has been telegraphing for weeks that its war aims now go well beyond defending Ukraine." https://www.commondreams.org/news/2...ssive-lawmakers-go-all-40-billion-ukraine-war
Senator John McCain has been officially banned from ever being allowed to visit Russia. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ns-banned-entering-adds-26-new-Canadians.html
963 people were banned. They were dumb for including McCain, obviously, but who they left out may be more telling. Or maybe this is just propaganda. Who knows. My trust in any publication is thin.
I've been a little pessimistic lately. Germany, Austria, Hungary and Italy are not united with the rest of the West against russia. They are reluctant on sanctions, especially as far as cutting off energy imports, don't help militarily and some in those countries are foolishly advocating for Ukraine to give away territory to russia to achieve peace. It's sad to know they think that will bring peace. On the military front, of course Mariupol fell and we lost all those POW's. Now they are at the outskirts of Severodonetsk and it may fall also. However all is not lost. It's an artillery war now and Ukraine has most of it's big howitzers (from USA and a couple other countries) in place, This is a war of attrition now and I just saw this chart today which seems to show Ukraine is winning that. This is compiled with numbers from Oryx, who are not affiliated with either country and post only kills they can truly verify. Here it is: Also CNN and NYTimes are saying a decision has been made by USA to provide Multiple launch rocket systems and other long range missiles. Ukraine really wants these and they should really help.
'Slippery Slope... Just Got a Lot Steeper': US to Send Ukraine Advanced Missiles as Russia Holds Nuke Drills Peace advocates fear the Biden administration's high-tech arms shipments to Ukraine are increasing the likelihood of a full-scale conflict between the U.S. and Russia. https://www.commondreams.org/news/2...s-send-ukraine-advanced-missiles-russia-holds
I haven’t been following as closely the past few weeks but it seems like Russia caught a second wind and is making some advancements.
They have. There is fighting in the streets of Severodonetsk right now, russians control 70% of the city at this point. Ukrainians may retreat across a river and try to find positions easier to defend. russia has focused the majority of their forces there, which leaves them weaker elsewhere, so Ukraine has counteroffensives going. outside Kharkiv in the north and Kherson in the south. (Severodonetsk is halfway between.) Ukrainian strategy is to wear the russians down, importing and bringing to the frontlines more and more heavy and more accurate NATO artillery. They of course have the greater willpower and motivation to win and I still think they will drive the russians out within 3-4 months.
