My brother/sister-in-law are headed for Seattle today. They depart on an Alaskan cruise tomorrow. I'm jealous.

For those of you who've been. any pros/cons I can relate to them?

    Thanks in advance.

If they don't die from disease, they'll probably die from exposure.

I’m going to go on one in early July. I’ve heard great things. I have been to Alaska once. If they can do an excursion where they get to ride on a cart pulled by sled dogs, try that. I did that in Wasilla and it is amazing how fast these dogs run.

I lived in the PNW off and on for 47 years and have never been on an Alaskan cruise. Heh, for that matter, have never been on any cruise.

I've already been invited to two separate 50-year birthday cruises. I guess that's the thing to do?

One in Alaska and one on the Mediterranean. They just gave me the heads up that they'll be doing them in a few years and planning them now.

I've done one cruise from LA to Mexico a while back maybe 10 years ago. Carnival, it was a bit cheesy but fun since I just drank all day and night.

I went from Panama to Alaska a couple times on a destroyer in the Navy....no floor show or buffet though..Alaska makes one feel really small...it's beautiful from the coastline ...my Navy buddy was stationed in Adak naval air station in Alaska and he hated the place

I did the Alaskan cruise about 30 years ago when I was like 12. It was a lot of fun. It's not a massive party like the Caribbean cruises. It's more chill. The view is amazing. There's some nice sightseeing. I don't know how much it has changed in the past 30 years though.

It's been pretty hot here. Undoubtedly, they will love the high temp break.

I have been really wanting to get back. I think it would be fun to take my wife. The little towns are charming and the food was pretty good. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have been on three cruises. Norwegian Cruise Line (Hawaii), Holland America (Caribbean) and Celebrity (Italy/Mediterranean).

As cruise liners go Celebrity > Holland America >>> NCL

We did one a few years ago. Each stop has some great excursions. We had some friends in Juneau who took us out to see glaciers. The lumberjack show in Skagway was fun and my kids really enjoyed it. Went on a grizzly tour in Hoonah along with a whale watching tour. It was the only cruise we have been on so not a lot to compare it to, but I will never go on another without the balcony. We had a inside cabin and my FIL had a porthole and I feel we missed a lot by not being able to watch the scenery as we traveled.

Was just talking to my parents about their Alaska cruise. They’ve lived in the PDX area their whole lives and said they didn’t find the scenery all that different. People from other parts of the country/world go crazy for it though. Dad says it seems to be everyone else’s favorite cruise.

if I’m going on a cruise I wanna wear flip flops and bask in the sun. Not wear a coat and hear schpiels about whales and shit

OK, they're from Tennessee. A few hours from Florida, where they go all the time. Please allow for a bit of variety, my man. :)

Now we know why @ABM wants to take a cruise!

Jealousy over a THREESOME between passengers sparked 60-person brawl on Carnival Cruise ship dance floor that lasted for an HOUR and spanned five floors
    • A massive brawl erupted in a nightclub early Tuesday on the Carnival Magic just off New York harbor as it was wrapping up its eight-day Caribbean cruise
    • It has emerged the brawl was triggered after some passengers engaged in a threesome - which then enraged their significant others, leading 40 to 60 people to get involved in the punch-up
    • Two people began scuffling on nightclub dance floor and the altercation then rapidly got out of control
    • The fracas began on the fifth floor and lasted for an hour, ending up on the first floor of the cruise ship
    • Video shows security guards clearly outnumbered and completely powerless to stop the large brawl
    • After the fight, the Coast Guard escorted the ship to dock in Manhattan - no injuries were reported

We can go on a swingers cruise and have our beers there if you'd prefer that @ABM over Acropolis.

I think Alaska is one of the few cruises I would consider. It would be a great way to see some really isolated areas. Usually though I hate the idea of cruises, I would much rather hang out and get a real feel for where I am at.
