We love serving that to white people. They love it! We just laugh and laugh, never telling them what it is.
My inlaws tried that with the pork intestine noodle soup from Taiwan...they kept wanting me to try it without telling me what it is....they were shocked when I liked it...I am not squeamish about food generally speaking but the joke was on them. First time I had tripe in Mexico it creeped me out but I was so hung over and it cured my hangover...well worth it!
Most people love Chocolate Meat (aka Dinuguan). Its basically pork intestines cooked in pork blood. Filipino parents would tell their kids its "chocolate meat" so they wouldn't get freaked out.
Maybe the Billy Ray connection is why they singled out Portland. Like they've been following the Blazers ever since?
I am Fillipino and will admit I am not a huge fan of Filipino food either. My wife is Laotian/Thai and I prefer the food her parents make 10 times out of 10.
Most americans seem creeped out by pork intestines until they realize that's what holds their hotdogs together...if it is in weiner form, it's good...if it's in noodle form...yuck! Most of the lungs, heard, liver, snout etc is ground up for hot dogs...same as chocolate meat I'd guess
