We won't know till we see him in action during the upcoming season, but it's all there to be something very special.

You guys know how we often look back at past drafts and say, damn we could've gotten that guy...or we should've have drafted that guy.

    We drafted that guy.

I have a feeling the kings and pacers are definitely gonna be living that in a few years.

If Mathurin makes a few All Star selections, they might be fine. But yeah Duarte last year, Mathurin this year. Very risk averse.

To be fair though, I wouldn’t be as confident as I am in Sharpe’s development in my team environment if I was the Kings or Pacers either.

Did I hear Sharpe correctly in that he didn't start playing basketball till 10th grade?

It was cool to see Chauncey and Joe getting their guy, when Jody joined it became awkward. She's cringe and awkward, but Aldo is right i guess, she is always at the games, shit she even sits in the war room on draft night and is celebrating the Sharpe pick

He said "seriously" and I thought he said 9th but I'm not positive on that. I definitely didn't take it to mean that he didn't play basketball in his earlier youth. I think an interesting followup question would have been at what age he was when he played on his first basketball team. When he was 15 he was on Canada's under 16 FIBA team. I don't think a year is enough time to be recognized as one of the best 12 people at that age in all of Canada. He had to be a known basketball player for years to be on that team.

I heard him say something about playing football in a different interview and the answer you were referring to was preceded by a question about hockey. So I think he was saying that he didn't give up other sports to pursue basketball seriously until he was in 9th or 10th grade. In 9th grade or year nine as they call it in Canada he led his team to the Ontario secondary school (that's varsity highschool) territory title and in 10th grade he moved to the US (Kansas) to play highschool ball here as the number one ranked recruit in his class or at least he was by the end of that season. 11th grade he moved again, this time to Arizona to play highschool ball there as the number one recruit in his class and then he forewent his senior season, graduated early and headed to Kentucky dropping to the third ranked guy in the class that he reclassified into. I know Chet was number one but I don't know who number two was.

So I'm pretty sure this guy has been playing basketball at a high level since he was at the very latest middle school age.

Yes he said 9th grade. Surprising indeed. Actually played some hockey growing up.

From everything I've watched of him that is the comparison I keep coming back to the most. I think his ceiling is a Paul George with better offensive creation skills. I also think it's silly for anyone (looking at Marang) to say he can't play SF at some point in his career. Who cares about his height without shoes. His arm length, defensive instincts and the potential he has to still grow (just turned 19), I think it's a higher chance than most that he becomes a 3 than strictly a 2.

I actually think it would be better if he started his career as a SG/SF and work his way into eventually being strictly a SG. He’s only 6’6 in shoes but his wingspan is just as long, if not longer, than guys like PG, Thybulle, Aaron Gordon, Tatum.

We should bring Sharpe along like the Spurs did Kawhi. Sharpe should focus on playing defense and guarding SG/SF and playing off ball. Then as he becomes a primary option, have him play strictly at SG where he’ll probably the bigger guy every night. It’ll also help him conserve energy guarding guys smaller than him.

Love a guard that posts up. If he can really post up and becomes an adequate passer, he’ll be really valuable in the playoffs when everything slows down. If he put it all together and ever left for another team, he has the potential to average 30ppg.

His lower body looks to me to have already gotten bigger since high school.

Disagree. Very few guys are still growing at 19, it's highly likely this is as tall and long as he gets. I think he could play SF just like he could play PG or PF, but size wise SG is where you ideally slot him on D as thats the size of NBA player he most resembles. In today's positionless game, there isn't much of a difference in the role that SGs and SFs play on offense. On D I'd love to see the team to have the ability to switch things as well as man up to mix their looks. As such, I want the SF to be able to reasonably be able to guard 4s and even 5s. At around 200 lbs thats not what I'd prefer to ask SS to do. I'd rather have his his length and quickness on the perimeter taking away passing lanes and 3 point looks from PGs-SFs.

Well, except the guy "guarding" him, isn't actually.

Doesn't affect me being very happy with the pick though.
