I think many of you are setting yourselves up for extreme disappointment in both the Nurkic and Simons contract threads. I think the market value is higher for both players at the moment than many of you believe.

something between 60 and 70 million i guess. There are very few Teams with Cap Space and those who have, they are not interested in Nurkic, so his Market is basicly Portland, that puts the Blazers in a good position, Nurkic not so much

Yeah, I think your Nurk take is fair, but in my book, there is no way Nurk shut it down early this year to take less than 15 mil per (your 15-17 mil per expectation is certainly reasonable). My best guess would be that he is inching closer to 20 per year. Calvin's suggestion of 4/72 or ill's of 4/75-80 are right in the ballpark.

    3/51

17 a year is a decent increase in what he's earning now. I dont see a 4 year with his injury history.

3/60 +/- with team option for 4th year is about right.

18M a year for a player that just underperformed at 12M per... that's fucking terrible. I am not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that's a terrible decision.

I pick 4/60-64. Probably an option for the 4th year.

It’s definitely terrible. I’m not a fan anyway. But at that price no way. I would gladly have him back around 10-12.

he underperformed at 12? huh? he was the 115th highest paid player in the league last year and averaged 15/11 with good defense. And he woulda played 65-70 games had we not shut him down to tank.

I've explained this before. He may have earned a slight raise when he was on the floor but he just wasn't on the floor enough. The dude has been injured far too often. So given his overall production throughout the life of the deal he underperformed.

I'm guessing 18m max, hoping for a little less. But what's with all Nurk hate? I don't think I realized people in here dislike him. Why? Because of the flip shots? Dude is awesome.

he had acute fluke injuries. nothing he had was truly degenerative. the way people talk about him, you'd think he was john wall getting 80+ mil to go away.

I think Nurk has value but he lacks the mobility needed in today's game to be truly elite. So, if Nurk signs for a contract that starts at 15M and increases from there, I won't be pissed. That's not a great deal for us but it's acceptable. I'm just worried that we'll go over that and it will be an overpay now that could look a lot worse as immobile bigs become less valuable.

we should not be expecting "truly elite" at 15-20 mil per year. you should expect a serviceable player with some strengths and some limitations -- that's Nurk.

And while Nurk might not have the speed to switch on the perimeter, he's also being asked to do so much on that end and compensate for at least three other teammates. I don't think everyone's favorite guy Robert Williams would be more impactful he switched places with Nurk next to all these other negative defenders.

Another sidebar, Nurk shot a career high from the field and had his best rebounding year last year.

He was hurting so shutting him down might have been a benefit to him.
Give him no more than he could get from another team.
Overpaying non superstars is a bad idea. Need to be able to trade his contract.

The evidence is there that they shut him down to tank. He was playing us into the playoffs!

And he is Dame's guy; their pick and roll is top notch. The Whiteside experiment should show you what a difference Nurk makes.

Trade?!? This has careful what you wish for written all over it...

Nurk is currently the 13th highest paid center @ 12m per year.
    Stevens Adams 17.5
    Valanciunas 15

My guess he's going to get 15-17 ? Should know in a couple days.
