No question with the Ukraine-Russia war. Ukraine is a big time supplier of wheat.

As is Russia. And both are huge suppliers of fertilizer... Real tough times ahead.

What evidence is there that more control will lead to better outcomes?

More choices is better for consumers than very few choices.

    It is known.

Boomers didn't steal anything from anyone, so quit looking for excuses. We were handed an unsustainable model by the "Greatest Generation", coming off a post war boom. Most of us grew up in a one income family, with mom at home to do all those "mother things". In other words, we were lucky. When we hit adulthood we found that a one income family didn't cut it anymore. If we wanted any of the things we grew up with, our spouses had to work too. And our kids paid the price for having both parents working. If you want to blame anyone for "stealing your future", blame corporate greed, which runs across ALL generations including yours. If that isn't apparent in these current times, then you're not paying attention. My wife and I worked our asses off over our lifetimes. We didn't "steal" a fucking thing. So don't even go there.

Surprisingly, this is a problem I don't concern myself with. When I get too old, I will kill myself; I like the certainty of it better than asking my children and partners to support me as I decay into nothing slowly and painfully like my father did. Given my family history, I probably won't make it to retirement anyway. So I'm just trying to enjoy my last 20 years as best I can.

I would love to know how many of those other countries, on that list, have universal health care for their citizens.

Reduced life expectancy is a good thing. It reduces the pressure on our Social Security system.
