It’s stunning to me. $100M for Simons. This feels very 2016-ish to me. Cap raised and wheeeeeee everyone gets paid.
Yeah they're nowhere close to good enough to justify this number. Per 36 minutes shows you what a game looks like... look at everyone's per 100 possessions, it inflates everyone's numbers because no one gets 100 possessions a game. You need to look at the Per 100s for other players that make 20M and more... if it's not a horrendous deal, they have better numbers than Ant.
So what do you do? Let him walk and get nothing in return for 4 years of player development? It's either pay him the market rate or lose him.
This. Only the Pistons and Magic had the cap space to offer Ant what he got.....and neither of them was going to do that based on some thing people said that I talked to.
I just make him get an offer sheet that I can match, so we don't continue a precedent of bidding against ourselves. It's not complicated. Nurk might be complicated but Ant wasn't. If he wanted a big payday we tell him we'll match anything he gets, just go get it. That's due diligence with a RFA.
You know what, if we get another starting piece (obviously a forward) in a trade, I don't really give a fuck I guess. Overpay everyone but if we're going to do that Joe better be damn sure that we're competing for championships not play-in games.
No. It's not just that. 4/100 is essentially what players of his age, ability, and stats get. We all know that. So the solution is to lowball him and piss him off? Not a good strategy. Not good management. Not good for chemistry, the locker room, the culture.
I was just comparing this to the crabbe deal in my head and agree. Ant can handle the ball. Crabbe couldn't. Ant is also lankier and I think can become a better defender with some emphasis/focus on that end of the floor.
You don't even lowball him, he started for like 4 months, sucked for two of them and dominated for two of them last season. So you tell him that you can give him 18-20M a year and if that doesn't sound good to him, that's fine... we will not let you go but we need you to go out there and get that offer sheet that has the extra money you feel you deserve. He's a restricted free agent, that's not an insult it's good business. What we've done with CJ, Meyers and now Ant is bad business.
Some of the money being spent out there is crazy numbers Not sure what other option there was. there are some desperate teams out there looking for good young players
