he improved as a shooter, but even if he’s a one trick pony, he does it at an elite level. He was third in the league in DBPM behind Jokic and Giannis, and just ahead of Thybulle. Btw Bruce brown was also top 30 in the league in DBPM.
I have a hard time believing the report of an 8M offer to Payton. That would hard-cap Portland just to review...yes, Payton is great defensively. But he's 6'2 for chrissakes. This is a guy who has averaged 14 minutes (17.6 this year), 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. 8 million? why is it so fucking hard for Portland to stock up on 6'6 to 6'9 wings when the rest of the NBA doesn't seem to have much of a problem doing so?
? https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2022_advanced.html Did GP2 not meet the minimum minutes criteria? I dont see him here.
Their offense relies far more on movement and passing than ours traditionally. GP in a static, Dame-centered offense scares the hell out of me.
he didn’t. Actually neither did Draymond, but he would’ve been first. So Payton was fourth among players with at least 1,000 minutes.
It's not about what he gives on offense, it is about what he takes away from everyone else on that side. To be fair, it would have been the same issue with Thybulle and to a lesser degree, Brown.
