Hart is arguably the starting SF right now, especially when Nas inevitably gets injured.

So the starting backcourt is still short and plays no defense, although Ant could theoretically improve.

I’m not so sure about Hart + Ant may or may not be more valuable. Ant still needs to prove for more than 30 games he is worth 25 mill. Hart is expiring so, unless I’m missing something, he has diminished trade value as teams will be scared he won’t re-sign.

I'm sure it's been explained already but I'm not caught up. Can someone explain to me why even though none of the contracts have yet been signed, why we can no longer make substantial trades? I know nothing about the hard cap and apron and all that shit. Not that I think we would have anyways, just curious why these agreements make it near impossible.

Am I missing something? Does the hard cap prevent us from making trades?

The team deserves criticism sometimes. They make bad trades. They make bad signings. They also make good trades and good signings.

Saying the team had a bad offseason doesn't warrant crying emojis. It will be OK.

In a way, yes. If you're at the hard cap, you can't go over for any reason. Not even to sign vet minimum guys. So if we were to send out 4-5 guys to get someone like Durant, we wouldn't be able to sign players to fill those 3-4 holes in our roster.

Well, time will tell, for sure, and even if Dame and Ant are the starting back-court, you also have to see if they are staggered more than Dame + CJ were. But, for now, I assume Nas is the starting 3, Hart and or GP2 play a lot next to either Dame / Ant.

Not arguing more valuable although they certainly can be, simply because Ant is so young, but my point was that it is a lot easier to move either one of them in a deal to balance the roster than it was to move just CJ with his huge salary.

There was a time where I was a huge homer. Any minuscule signing of a scrub player I’d pump up to people like it’s gonna make us amazing.

Thank god I grew out of that stage.

Once again, no one expects it to happen overnight.

But Joe Cronin’s self pro-claimed goals TOWARDS making it happen - he got further away from.

    Flexibility - Gone
    Better roster balance - No
    Better size - No
Increased overall talent - Probably slightly.
    More assets - Really debatable.

So it’s not about it happening overnight or even quickly. It’s about making the right steps towards making it happen. According to his self-proclaimed goals … we are arguably further, not closer, to making it happen.

Same. Then I realized I wasn't gonna be alive forever and I wanted to witness a championship. Being content with first round and outs is frustrating.

Maybe that's why we signed so many guards because we won't be able to once we trade said guards plus picks for someone like Durant.

True. I don’t see the assets you speak of, but the post should’ve said “so far”.

You have to have a minimum of 13 players on your roster. You can't dip below that.

So if we sent out 4-5 guys to get Durant, and we didn't have the cap space to go sign literally anyone else, that would put us below that threshold.

Bad is a matter of opinion. So is good.

but because saying something is bad doesn't make it true.
I think the complaints about the complaints are largely in as much haste as the original complaints are.
    Some things take steps.
An overhaul doesn't happen over night.
The cap is going to go up.
My opinion is the complaints are living in yesterdays cap and not really looking at the longer, bigger picture here.
Instant world so people want instant improvement. Fixing a decade of mistakes will take time and dismantling can get ugly at times. It doesn’t mean the ugliness isn’t required or permanent.
But some takes on here are viewing it as just that, and thats where the complaining about the complaints come in I think.

Flexibility is certainly not gone. It is much easier to trade going forward a 22m and 12m young assets like Simons / Hart than it to trade an aging 33m CJ.

    The team isn't bad.

    The team isn't good.

The team is right back in the mediocre middle.

And yet many fans are OK with all of it. Given that Payton is pushing 30, you can't sell this as anything but but another low impact, win-now move.

Under different circumstances, Payton isn't even a bad acquisition. There are teams he could help. Signing him to sit behind Dame/Simons/Hart is absurd. His signing is also a clear message that not even Cronin thinks Sharpe can contribute.

I mean even a guy like Jalen Smith with size and upside would have moved my needle a little bit.
