Even if we will be hard capped, it is still possible to make deals. NOP acquired CJ after they were hard-capped. If this is what Dame really wants (2 separate IG posts today), how could it be done? Cap gurus like @hoopsjock and anyone else who can definitively specify how this could happen ....I'm talking to you.

You would think he would have had enough discussions with Joe to know if it was possible. Has Joe outlined a way it could happen?

Don’t think he’s actively recruiting. But either way, he better hope the Durant trade gets postponed until the season starts.

Definitely no cap guru but the gist is this.

We effectively cant use the Bledsoe 19 mil to bring equal salary back so to make up for Durants 44 mil, we would have to trade like 5 players. And after acquiring KD, we would not have enough room under the apron to sign minimum deals to meet the minimum roster requirement.

Technically Portland could renege on GPII & get the deal done.
Obviously there are some ramifications for that

that would blacklist us from ever signing a FA again. you know portland has reached out to BK already. We heard reports of it last week. They only went forward with the rest of their plan after getting rejected.

someone needs to communicate that to dame.

or maybe... he's doing this to make it seem like he's trying to recruit, but the team didn't help him land KD, so he has grounds to leave now. lol, 5d chess.

Pels had enough space below the cap to make the deals. Right now Portland is projected to be ~$4M under.

The easiest solution would be to go back to GPII & tell him we can only pay the tax-MLE. It would be a black eye for Portland's reputation, but it would allow Bledsoe + Hart to e included in a Durant trade

That was one of the biggest issues I had with the GP2 signing. Nice piece, but unless something changed, there aren't many minutes for him and it hard-capped us. Didn't seem worth the cap bind it put us in.

Maybe just maybe Kevin Durant doesn’t want to come to Portland and he’s let it be known.

This is very, very likely but it'll get spun as Joe not trying to get him somehow. Suns Heat Mavs and Raptors seem to top the list

The Pelicans were way under the hard cap line so they could take on all the extra salary and still be way under. The Blazers are too close to make it work, unless it's Dame going out. KD is impossible otherwise, thanks to the GP2 signing. In September they could combine Grant/Hart/Nas/Winslow to match Durant, but then the math to sign 3 minimums to get the roster back to 14 doesn't work and still staying under the tax, very close though.

This is how it jokingly went down:

Dame: "Get me GP2, we need him"

Cronin: "Okay Dame, we got him for you"

Dame: "Now let's get KD! I'll start recruiting!"

Cronin: "Um Dame, I have some bad news."

I just don't get the GP2 signing. It handicaps the franchise likely more than he will be able to help it. I get the defensive impact he can have, but if it is at the cost of the flexibility, length and roster balance Joe talked about, that doesn't seem to be worth it for a bench/role guy.

Wait for the introductory press conference for GP2 and come back to this post:

They're gonna say they view GP2 as a forward. "It's different than Norm because the analytics show he's one of the best forward defenders in the league. The numbers bear that out both on the perimeter and in the post."

Warriors are legit pissed (a week after a title) about losing Payton. I’ve gotten texts from people who are pissed at Myers. They loved him.

For 15 minutes a game before he gets in foul trouble.

Don’t you only have to get to 13? 12 active and one inactive is the bare minimum. Two ways don’t count.
