Why isn’t Terry Stotts coaching?

Reports talked about the Jazz having interest, but they just signed Will Hardy to a 5 year deal.

Magic recently hired a former Mavericks assistant coach as well.

    Why isn’t Stotts coaching somewhere?

Say what you want about how far we got with him. Stotts is not a horrible coach… Would you rather have McMillan? As far as coaching FA goes, he’s one of the top coaches available, right?

He had mixed success as Portland coach. With such a long tenure, he doesn't have any accomplishments in recent years as an assistant on a good team. Was a candidate for several positions, but since he didn't get any that probably reduces his appeal as well. I think he'll need to be an assistant or something else before getting his next job.

Great person, great leader of our franchise, had some great offensive ideas, got some horrible rosters with scrubs to perform very well. Obviously had faults too. I hope we see more from him, and I wish him well.

He's getting paid by the Blazers again this year same as last....he has no incentive to really work...Thibideau did the same thing when the Bulls bought him out. Terry was offered an assistant coaching job with the Lakers and turned it down. At his age he can pick and choose. I'd retire if I were in his shoes and enjoy his life. Stotts had two years left on his contract when we parted ways. Look who's been hired and it's young assistant coaches, not the Stotts or D'Antonis or Mark Jacksons....the league has been trending toward the next chapter of coaches since Brad Stevens coached Boston. Hell we hired a rookie coach over D'Antoni

He's not really a good one either. Most people could watch our team and see that Dame/CJ were just carrying him and his simplistic offense.

Average coach who just kinda rolled the ball out there and let them play with no emphasis on defense whatsoever.

I don’t know if he’ll get another shot. His gigs in Milwaukee and Atlanta we’re not very notable either.

Nice guy though. Wish him the best.

Stotts is a fine coach, not great, not horrible. Could be plenty of reasons he hasn't been hired outside of just being good in Portland. Hiring unproven assistants seems to be a much bigger trend than retreads at this point.

So far we have yet to see the results improve w/out him. I highly doubt we'll make it any further in the playoffs under Billups than we did with Stotts, but I really want to be wrong on that one.

I think they don’t look at them as unproven assistants but more as young innovative minds that follow the analytics narrative.

He’s decent but always got exposed in the playoffs by not making adjustments.

a team rebuilding would be smart to hire him imo, but dump him before getting into contention

He’s a terrible coach. He’s not good, not bad, but horrible.

Nice guy though. Complete scrub of a coach.

He's better than Clifford who the Magic opted to rehire rather than hire him.

I can't prove the second part, but that might be their hope/wish. My desciptor wasn't meant to be a slight, just a factual description.

For example, I have no proof that Billups is an innovative mind that follow the analytics narrative more than the average coach. Do you?

    Hold up.

"We haven't seen the results improve with out him." Are you serious? You're going to make assumptions based on us tanking the fuck out of last season? Dame went out for the year and we openly tanked for almost half the season.

I'm sorry, but it's an absolute joke you're basing ANYTHING off of last season. At least say "hey guys, Im gonna troll you, but here's my incredibly bad take".

    Context is beautiful. Use it.

I'm unsure what I said that is inaccurate. Have we seen results improve? No... which is what I said. Did I say, last year proves Billups is an awful coach? No. Even if healthy, that probably wouldn't have been enough time to draw that large of a conclusion.

Also of note: Hold up. You misquoted me dispsite putting quotes around my supposed statement. Context is beautiful. Use it.

I 100% look forward to the day where someone (properly) quotes me saying "I highly doubt we'll make it any further in the playoffs under Billups than we did with Stotts." and tells me to eat crow. I'm looking forward to that playoff run! I've said it in so many threads, but I'll say it here again... I think Billups was a fine hire, but I don't think he'll be the solution, just like I don't feel Stotts was the problem. If the roster doesn't get significantly better, there is only so much Billups can do.

I will say you are good at charades. You’ll infer something and we know where you stand but never actually say it.

I like Billups. I liked Stotts. I don't think Billups (to date) has had more success. I think Billups could end up having more success, but it would require a significant roster upgrade, which I'm not sure will happen.

I'm looking forward to being called a Billups apologist in a few years when everyone is blaming him for our lack of success and I'm likely saying I think he's a good coach. Until then, I guess I have to stick with my old title.

I can't help if other people make incorrect assumptions or read further into things I say. It's clear a few people think they know where I stand but are incorrect. I'm trying to stick to fact based stuff here as much as possible.

Maybe Stotts would do better than Mark Jackson as a broadcaster? :blahblah:

This is why i call Chauncey a rookie coach still. Has not shown anything and has not been in any real pressure game situations. Has not used real starting role players and has not had to deal with the ego's involved.
