Boone Jenner comes to mind. He's big. Good faceoff guy. T0ugh. Good shooter. He just signed in Columbus which makes no sense. They have Sillinger, Johnson and Roslovic as young centers who need to play. Moving Jenner to the wing is moronic. He's on a good contract for the next 4 years at 3.75. The Jackets goaltending situation is a disaster. I don't believe in any of their goalies. Moving Georgiev there with perhaps a Hunt and Hajek for Jenner makes sense. Columbus then can move Korpisalo who sucks but is cheap. Moving Merzkikins who is average after they gave the dumbass a 5.4 million contract will be a challenge. However, he's still better than the rejects the Devils use in net and they want to get rid of Blackwood and they have cap room.
His trade value is greatly diminished he’s an unrestricted free agent next year and he’s going to want about nine to $10 million a year. Essentially he’s a one year rental. Any deal for Miller they would have to take Nemeth. That’s a nonstarter if they won’t do it. I’m sure they would want Lundkvist. I wouldn’t give Chytil not for a rental. I don’t even think I would trade Kratsov unless I got a 2023 first round draft pick unprotected. The Canucks totally fucked up not trading him last year. Honestly if they take Nemeth I would say Lundkvist is enough for rental
I think Drury will be looking at someone for two years, which is why I think the Jets are the team to focus on. PLD or Scheifele, and I think Scheifele is more likely. It would be a clear upgrade from Strome, his cap hit is $6.1M, and sets us up for 2 years of open window. Then after 2 years Kreider and Trouba both go to limited NMC's from full NMC's, so you can try and deal one for cap space. You add a Scheifele, I think re-sign Motte, and hopefully can keep Chytil, I think that is a team that can win a cup. If you have to deal Chytil, still a good team, but then you hope Goodrow can be the 3rd line C, paired with Kravtsov and maybe Blais, and then Motte and Reaves start the 4th line. You find the right guy to pair with Schenider, Kakko improves, Lafreniere and Miller become studs, and that is an absolute SC level team. Kreider/Z/Kakko Panarin/Scheifele/Lafreniere Blais/Goodrow/Kravtsov Motte/#4 C/Reaves Lindgren/Fox Miller/Trouba 3rd pair LD/Schneider
I don't see the Canucks trading Miller. I think they're going to ride it out into next season and see where they are at the DL.
I think they'll A) want too much, and B) with only one year left, he is not a great fit for us anyway. Look to the Jets...
Would love Scheifele here. Big, strong, right handed, can put up 70-80 pts a season and doesn't turn 30 til next March. Make it happen Drury!
Scheifele would be a dumb move unless the cost was low. The reason it is dumb is because of the incompetent, fucking stupidity of the Rangers coaching staff and organization developing Lafreniere and Kakko properly. Because they have not done so, they still have no idea what they are and because of that there isn't any player they could acquire that they can say is the final piece to a cup. If the shitheads played Lafreniere and Kakko 17-18 minutes a game and on the first PP unit, we probably would have a good idea if they will develop into consistent 60 to 80 point players. Then giving up something to get a Scheifele would make sense. Now, it's dumb because we have no clue what those two can become. That is why those who said they weren't developing Lafreniere and Kakko correctly were 100% correct and it can't be disputed.
Either way both guys are now going to be in the top six and the Rangers are entering go for it mode, so they need a top flight #2C for the next 5 years.
What reason do we have to be confident that Lafreniere and Kakko will be in the top 6 next year? Particularly Kakko Kreider and Panarin will be prioritized as LW which in my opinion is wrong so at best you'll have Alexis trying to learn a new position, which is even more wrong to do to him.
Agree - and he's 50%+ on FO's. He is a very good fit IMO. We may have to give up Chytil to get him, and while I rather keep Chytil, if I had to do it to get Scheifele, I would. Maybe a pick and/or Lundqvist to round out the deal. Would finally give us a legit 1-2 punch at C, complete the top 6, leave spots for Kakko and Lafreniere, and to me make us a legit SC team. I could see the lines being something like what I wrote above. That is a very good team, a legit contender team if the guys who should take the next step, do so as expected. As mentioned, I really would like to try and add Scheifele and keep Chytil (and Kakko), but Chytil may have to be in the deal to make it happen.
It is an unanswerable question right now, but my money is both will be in the top 6. Even doing the math tells you that. We need them there next season. If not who? Vatrano is gone and isn't a top 6 player. Kravtsov is not ready. Not sure who else fits the mold. They wanted Kakko in the top 6 this season, and he didn't step up to grab hold of it. Do not want to debate why, who cares at this point, bottom line it didn't stick. So I expect he'll get every chance to do so next season. Lafreniere said on breakup day he wanted to be top 6 next season, and I'd be shocked if we didn't accommodate that. Either he plays RW, or Panarin does IMO. I'll say right now both will be top 6 wingers next season. I see something like what I wrote above as the lines.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kravtsov passes Kakko on the depth chart next season. Both guys should have their own motivations.
Kravtsov is a pussy. However his shot, size and skating translates to the NHL. It’s a matter of he has an ounce of balls on him
I wouldn’t mind Scheifele or PLD. Both have an edge and might resign in NY. Who the hell would want to re sign in Winnipeg. Just make the team better. Strome was good but watch, his point total was a partly due to playing with Panarin. It wouldn’t surpirse me to see them sign Malkin for a few years but it probably would never work out because a he’s old and injury prone. Can’t believe he’s 36.. Giroux is another guy 34 . Neither will take a short deal. Too bad Forsberg scored 42g last year
That's why the Jets make sense to me. Both Scheifele and PLD have two controlled years around $6M per. That is where our market is. Then after two years we can move Kreider or Trouba if we need to.
Yes it is. In that $5.5M to $6M range +/- for a # 2 C. That is our target area. Nemeth will be gone - trade or buyout. We'll also have a cheaper backup goalie.
You have no fucking clue if they can trade Nemeth I hope they can and they sure as fuck aren’t buying him out
