Agreed. I heard Keon plus a second could get it done. I would approve.

It’s something that will need to be repeated over and over and over throughout the season.

So just to clarify, if a team only used a portion of the mle, could they still make a trade that put them over the hard cap thingy?

As long as they use an amount equal to the tax payer mle or about 6.5 mil starting, then they would not be hard capped. If that was Paytons starting salary instead of the reported 8.9 mil, then this would not be an issue.

    No.

Any team that spends even $1 more than the Tax-MLE (~$6.5M) is hard capped at the apron, which is set at ~$158M.

The hard capped teams make make as many moves as they want as long as they dont exceed that total cap amount at any time or for any reason.

there are two types of trades (other than pick for pick): trades that send out more salary than they bring back; and trades that send out less salary than they bring back. A hard-capped team is limited to the first option. That doesn't mean a hard-capped team can't make a trade. it just means that half of the NBA trade landscape is off-limits

So if we are at the hard cap thingy, we HAVE to trade $ for $, or $ for less?

pretty much. I think the Blazers are 3-4M under the apron but they need to leave some margin for trades, 10-day contracts, injury exceptions, etc.

Not just money for money or money for less, but we have to be able to make sure we are at 14 players as well.

    Thank you.

so theoretically, we can guarantee up to $19,375,000 of Bledsoe’s contract and take $19,375,000 or less back on or before July 10th

Nope, cause that would put us way over the hard cap. Can't go over no matter what. That ship sailed the minute they used $1 more than the Tax-MLE to sign Payton. (When it's actually official is irrelevant)

Ok, so if they’re hypothetically 4 million under the hard cap, they can guarantee Bledsoe for that amount or less and trade him for that amount or less

Yes. I’m actually hoping they use him in the Grant trade instead of the TPE so we can get rid of Bledsoes minimum 3.5 million. Every little bit will count.

They still have the RoCo TPE, which is about $6.5 million. So technically they don't need to change the guaranteed amount.
