You mean you don't want to crash land, try to swim for your life in the wreckage, then get eaten by sharks?
Do it! It's awesome! We flew out of Seattle and ended up at Friday Harbor. Exquisite August day in 2021!
If you haven't been to Germany then go for it! I had a great time and just loved it. There's not much that stands out as far as specific attractions (besides castles), it more like everything is just so damn pleasant. All the little villages are just super cute and all the food, beer and wine is top notch. The big cities are really clean and organized also. I don't drive but apparently it's just as easy to drive as the US and you can even rent high end sports cars for the Autobahn. Octoberfest would be fun, but I also think it could just be a mess if drunk tourists if your not in the right spot. We are considering October for another visit but lots of moving parts before we decide to make it official. If I make it back this fall I would like to fly into Frankfurt again, head down to Munich for a few days then take a long slow train ride through the Swiss Alps, ending in Zurich for some fondue.
I live in Seattle. I have never done this. I don't think I would either, but if you are interested, check it out. One thing I have been meaning to do is you can rent hot-tub boats in Lake Union. link It looks like a lot of fun. I would rather spend the money on an Argosy Cruise. You get to be outdoors. Still see the water. Maybe do the Locks tour if it is available. I did do a seaplane tour of Kodiak Island once in Alaska and that was unbelievable. But you also got to see a lot of wildlife, etc.
I've been on a bus tour with my family. https://www.trafalgar.com/en-us/tours/best-of-germany?seasongroup=summer 2023 That was basically the tour we did. We were actually in Munich about a week before Oktoberfest so there was some celebrating and we walked by the (closed) amusement park area where they hold it.
I did the Argosy Cruise to that Island where they grill the salmon. Pretty cool. https://www.toursales.com/tillicum-village-cruise-and-salmon-bake-p/lnaussl601ilvsbc-sp.htm
That is a state park. They ended their contract with the state last year I think during COVID. Currently not an option. You can go to Blake Island by private boat though, but no shows there currently.
Has anyone been to Tahiti? Alaska just partnered up with Air Tahiti and they have some pretty good deals up for next May, and June is coming out daily. I might even be able to score business class with my miles on a good deal. It's a dream spot for my wife so I am strongly considering it. If we did it, I was thinking like 4 days in Bora Bora and then another 4 on another island. Seems pretty spendy even with the free tickets tho. For anyone else interested there are also great airmile deals, including business class deals for Japan and London for next spring.
I've been to Tahiti, but it was 30 years ago. I loved it. Spent most of the time on the sister island of Moorea.
Moorea looks pretty dreamy, I'll look into it more. This place was recommended by someone, I've had my eye on it also. https://thebrando.com/home/
Gonna do this day trip to Whistler when we do our Vancouver trip https://www.viator.com/tours/Vancouver/Sea-to-Sky-and-Whistler-Village-Tour/d616-5375P15
I haven't been but I recently visited the spot where Captain Cook fatally pissed off the natives.......
Just finished Blue Latitudes. Good read. He pissed them off alright! I think at that point Cook was losing his mind and thought he was invincible, especially after they treated him like a god.
Ok did it. Booked two weeks in Tahiti for the end of next May/early June. Got business class flights out of Seattle with the Alaska's mileage rewards programs new partner, Air Tahiti. The good flights and deals get snapped up as soon as they are available, which is why we booked so far out. We've never done business class on a long flight, been saving those miles for just such an opportunity. There are tons of premium economy class still tho. Now I just got to figure out what to do. The island hopping sounds fun and easy. Probably somewhere between 3 and 5 islands. Bora Bora obviously but everything else is open. Moorea will probably be on the list also but not sure. We are also thinking about making a whole big thing of it and officially getting married before the trip and make that the honeymoon. We've been together 15 years and I call her my wife, but we haven't got around to officially doing it. The marriage itself will be as small and cheap as possible. Vegas or city hall type thing
How many miles did you have to use? I've often thought about going back. I think you should plan on going to Moorea if you can. It is very cool. I rented a Jeep and you could drive around the island in about 45-60 minutes if I remember correctly.
