Marks didn't have Eubanks or Walker. He also assumed the Blazers waived and stretched the 3.9Mil of Bledsoe's contract. That makes up the roughly 5Mil difference between those 2 breakdowns. Marks is incorrect. Assuming they 2way Walker, the Blazers are roughly 3.4Mil into the luxury tax (1Mil into it if Bledsoes is stretched and waived). Only way to duck under is to pay someone to take on Bledsoe's non guaranteed contract and eat the 3.9Mil (not unrealistic. Half expect Detroit to do it when the Grant deal finalizes). Or move Didi for little/no return. Either way, I'd be surprised if they stay over the tax line by the trade deadline this year, being so close to getting under and so limited in going over. Setting up for next year

Aren’t they still going to be in cap hell, with a purgatory at best roster, next year as well?

Depends on your outlook on Ant, Nas, and Shaedon improving, or potential trades involving those players if another star becomes available, draft picks potentially now being able to be traded, etc... There's reason for optimism. You could see it as purgatory, or you could see it as building. I'm not here to tell you how to see it. Not every team bottoms out to work their way into contender status. I'm happy with how they're doing it. Didn't want to see Lillard get moved and watch a 30 win team for 2-3 years in hopes of getting another good player in the draft, but didn't want to trade guys like Sharpe or Ant just to get stop gap vets either. Hoping for big internal growth from the young guys to keep the Blazers from long term purgatory

Your wrong, we traded away two starters for basically nothing to the Clippers for massive "flexibility"

Since we haven't utilized that "flexibility" for much of anything yet, of course its still available now and next year.

    Good analysis.

We also may not know the specifics on Ant or Nurk contract yet. The agent normally just report the max the player can earn when they leak terms the day of agreement. If there are unlikely incentives then the cap hit will be less.

I like Martin's game. Honestly, I'd rather have him at the tax-MLE and not be hard-capped than Payton and be hard-capped

He was restricted, however. So pretty much impossible.

Just when you think your team makes the dumbest moves in free agency... here come the Wizards.

So essentially this gives Beal veto power and allows him to pick his destination if he wants a trade. Oh and he gets a 15% trade kicker and a player option for the 5th year.

(we better not do the same with Dame-- that contract that Beal just got is toxic).

Dame's a better player than Beal. If he gets it, he does. But Dame's contract is looking like a bargain compared to these new contracts.

Adjusted for inflation, Clyde made about $50MM in his career in salary, which is what these guys are getting paid annually. Happy to see it.

Dame will get a contract presumably this summer that is in aggregate about 5 yrs, 245 mil. That would be either the 4th or 5th largest contract in the history of the NBA.

"bargain" is the last word I would use to describe that. I'm all for that extension to retain him, but if we add on things like no-trade clauses and player options and trade kickers, we would be shooting ourselves in the foot unnecessarily.

    Wasted prime.

Still never been to the finals.

Sticking around on a team that's not a true contender.

    https://sports.yahoo.com/report-minutes-draft-rockets-did-015452194.html

The Rockets tried to trade for the 1st pick just before the draft.

Also some curious info about Holmgren in this article.

"Once the Rockets were convinced Orlando was going with Banchero, Houston reached out to the Magic to make a trade offer to get up to the top pick, sources said.

The Rockets wouldn’t have made an offer if they were certain Smith would slide to them, sources said, but they were concerned about having to make a decision on Holmgren without time to digest his medical information…

So the Magic listened to the Rockets’ offer but firmly passed. The negotiation was brief, and the Rockets got the message: A deal was highly unlikely."

With this and the Brogdon addition, do the Celtics overtake the Warriors as favorites to win the title next season? I understand that with KD in play there is still a lot that has to shake out before we know the landscape of the league next year but as it stands are the Celtics the favorites?

They’re also supposedly the front runners in landing Aldridge.

Meh. Aldridge wouldn't really have a place in that rotation. They are all about defense and switching. Aldridge isn't mobile enough to stay on the floor any longer.
