GG coached Trochek in FLA so he knows what he's getting and I swear Vinnie was a part of every other scoring chance in the Canes series. With the limited cap space I think Drury got the best player to address the #1 concern of Rangers fans. Statistically Trochek has the best numbers among the 3 offensively, defensively and most importantly on face offs. The window of opportunity is open now so I'm not going to sweat losing draft picks or possible cap wrangling issues 5 years down the road to win now. This is what Rangers fans have been waiting for.
That's the key question Panzer, is he the best of the 3? He got paid like it, most overall money and most years by 2. The UFA rankings didn't have him as the best, the numbers are all pretty close, and even if someone may prefer Trocheck the best, is he most overall money and 2 extra years the best as the oldest of the trio? Not sure quite honestly, To me all 3 are in the same ballpark give or take, and we paid clearly the most for the oldest guy. Seems like a flashback to the Rangers of the past. The one thing he does have is the FO's, which is obviously a huge need for us, but we'll see if it was the best move as we move forward and see where it goes.
Also take a look at what Carolina did. They added Burns and Pacioretty to an already very talented team. And it is hard to say we really improved from last season. At best maybe neutral if Lafreniere, Miller, other kids take good jumps forward as one would hope. That's the thing, on paper we are not a SC winning team unless the kids really jump up, and with that adding Trocheck in place of Strome and Copp doesn't really get me overly excited, or move the needle much IMO. Again we'll see though.
I seriously don't know what the fuck Drury is doing with Jones and Lundkvist. He's pissing away draft picks left and right and is keeping 2 guys that won't ever play here instead of getting picks and players back.
Devils need defenseman and goalies. Of course the Rangers gave Trochek 3 years of a NMC and then limited no trade clause. They never fucking learn.
Overall Copp, Trocheck, Strome are all in the same ballpark. I would say Trocheck may be # 1, could be Copp, but it is close. None of them are on a different level from the other, yet we paid the oldest the most money for the most years (by 2). That is interesting to me. All I am saying. And like I said, I knew there would be a NMC/NTC for Trocheck as well. Don't love it, but is what it is now. Also, sounds like no Motte - and we signed Ryan Carpenter to be our 4th line C. Bottom 6 pretty much done now I'd say. Overall we are pretty much done also. Jones/Robertson/Lundkvist/Hajek compete for 6th dman.
Interesting stuff - one persons take: The New York Rangers had a plan, and that plan was apparently to make sure they signed center Vincent Trocheck to a 7-year deal worth $5.625 million per year on Wednesday. That was made very clear when Andrew Copp revealed on ESPN that the Rangers never even made him an offer before he decided to sign with his hometown Red Wings. The Rangers will certainly be scrutinized for opting to give Trocheck 7 years, versus signing Strome or Copp. Trocheck is clearly the better center, who can play both sides of the puck extremely well and can win draws. So there’s no arguing which is the better middle man.
They signed Ryan Carpenter to a 1 year contract. Finally no more Greg Fuckin McKegg. He signed with the oilers
Motte is gone now IMO. I am guessing we didn't want to pay him what he eventually will end up getting.
Maybe Motte is working to come back. He should’ve been signed already looking at some of the other dumbasses getting signed.
I think Drury has done an excellent job addressing the primary needs of the Rangers. Now I'm getting greedy and want Toews, the Hawks are rebuilding and the Rangers have pieces and picks.
Short term i like the addition of Trocheck, but long term it's another contract with NMC that will fuck us in the future. Hard. With Panarin, Kreider and Zib, we now have 4 contracts that we won't be able to move from and in a few years we'll have over $30M of cap space tied up on declining players in their mid 30s. Igor's current contract expiring in 3 years he will command a massive increase as well. Shit show.
