I believe this gentleman was simply stating that our current roster is more talented. The gist I got.
On paper, I think our roster is probably more talented today. It's hard to know for sure because Sharpe is an unknown, Little is injured, and we haven't seen how GP2 fits into our rotation. It's hard to sift through that roster because a bunch of those guys never played together, or had shorts stints on the team. That's 20 dudes on that roster. Melo wasn't even on that team at the start of the season. Are we comparing the opening night rosters or some combination of all the guys that played for the team that season?
Could compare spot for spot, if you'd like 2022 Dame v 2019 Dame - 2022 Dame is healthy for the first time in half a decade. I'll give him the nod 2022 Ant v 2019 CJ - As much as I want to say Ant, I think it's unfair to CJ to make that claim. 2019 here 2022 Hart v 2019 Harkless - Hart, easily. 2022 Grant v 2019 Aminu - Grant, easily. 2022 Nurk v 2019 Whiteside - Hassan gets the numbers, but Nurk's a better player overall. So comparing the starting lineups, I would give 2022 the advantage over 2019 in 4 of 5 spots. Let me know if you want to go through the bench too...
Oh snap, my bad--I was looking at the 18-19 roster (the one that eventually made it to the WCF after adding Hood and Kanter).
I changed my vote from Hart to Little. Hart is the better overall player at this time IMHO; however, having Hart run the 2nd unit was the word at the end of the season. Having Little focus on defense (playing a bit bigger than Hart) has merit in a starting line-up that can score. Having better players around him should help. It doesn’t seem a significant disparity in “Who is better?” Little gets the nod. Earn it. Hart could certainly make it too hard not to start him. Sharpe …
Yeah, I got myself all confused, combining both years. Just call me an idiot and forget I said anything...
I was thinking of the guys playing down the stretch at the beginning of April, heading into the playoffs.
Just talking about the rosters.....whose on what team. Bro, our current bench that people are hyped about has quite a few G leaguers. CJ was on that team and not on the current squad. Ant is on both. Whiteside was our BACKUP. You should be comparing Hassan vs Eubanks right?
Nurk was out for most of that year. I don't think he even came back until the bubble. This is what I'm talking about though. That's gotta be one of the hardest rosters to compare to because there was like three different versions of the team. Version 1 - start of the season before Collins and Hood was injured. Also before trading Bazemore. Version 2 - after the injuries and including the trade for Ariza/signing of Melo. Version 3 - the bubble, which included Nurk and Melo, but no Ariza because he didn't play in the bubble. There's no continuity with that team at all.
Yup, I think Nas should start as well. Starters: (Dame/Ant/Nas/Grant/Nurk) Subs: -Hart for Nas -GP2 for Ant -Winslow for Nurk Finish quarter with: (Dame/GP2/Hart/Winslow/Grant) 2nd quarter starters: (Ant/GP2/Hart/Winslow/Watford) Subs in 2nd: -Dame for Ant -Sharpe for GP2 -Nas for Winslow -Grant for Watford Lineup: (Dame/Sharpe/Hart/Nas/Grant) Rise and repeat for the second half. To close games, replace Sharpe with Ant and decide between Hart/Nas/Nurk on who the 5th guy should be depending on matchups. I think with this breakdown, you can see a minute distribution like this: Dame - 32 Ant - 32 Grant - 32 Hart - 30 Nurk - 28 Nas - 28 GP2- 20 Winslow - 14 Watford - 14 Sharpe - 12
That Dame/GP2/Hart/Winslow/Grant is gonna get killed on the boards. Doesn't matter how good GP2/Hart/JW are defensively if they can't get rebounds.
I think Dame is the first dude off the floor in the first quarter. I think you let Ant stay on and play the point while Dame gets a blow.
ugh I know... tell me again why GP2 made sense??? If we got a good rebounding big instead, the roster would be so much more balanced.
GP2 makes more sense when you watch what we did in the summer league. That's clearly the brand of defense that we want to play. I think Chauncey/Joe are going to continue to trade out and bring in guys who are willing to buy into that style of basketball. But honestly, the biggest threat to that scheme on offense and defense is.... Dame.
Because Chauncey is trying to establish a defensive identity. Getting GPII did that. This team will trap, steal, and run. Book it.
hopefully. One of the things I hated about stotts was his sub pattern of letting dame play the entire 1st and 3rd quarters without a rest.
