Literally *everybody* talks about how you can’t get *game reps* in practice when they comeback from injury so they’re going to be rusty, out of shape, the game is moving faster etc.

It’s not rocket science. Experience is the best teacher.

I’d also add that KG, TMac and Kobe were all pretty much force fed minutes.

I would argue that it's much easier for a 18-19 year old to adjust to the NBA/size, than it is for a rookie in the NFL (esp given their age)

could be the case....my point was that comparing Sharpe to any NFL rookie QB was a bad comp....apples to oranges

SS playing time will depend on just how good he his during practice. If he stands out and plays with smarts, within the team, he will earn his minutes. Especially if he has good defensive skills?

and the team that actually made the playoffs was the one where their rookie played the least and wasn’t even in the rotation to begin the season (Kobe/LA)

Sharpe is the same age as Banchero, Smith, Daniels, Sochan & Dieang?
I realize that didnt play the year of college hoops but he may not be that far behind them if at all?

he’s younger than Banchero. And the only guy on that list that’s on a team with playoff aspirations is Dyson.

    Sharpe will be an allstar!

(after he's traded to the Pacers.)

    Ok, let me adjust then:

Pete Caroll at USC was notorious for playing freshman over older players because they had the potential to be something special.

Side note: Your point also kinda helps my point. 3 years of college still didn’t prepare them for the NFL (for the most part); what prepares them for the NFL was playing in the games, reading the defenses in real time, and getting used to real time speed. A lot of them suck up the joint for the first half -> 3/4 of a season before it “clicks”.

He played in every single one of the first ten games except the first game.
And he played in all the playoff games.
And what’s the obsession with making playoffs? Who gives a rat fuck. The obsession should be with competing. Our best chance to compete comes with massive growth from Shaedon, and maybe Nas too.

This is why bad teams (see: Memphis) abandon the vets to get the young guys minutes. They know where they are if they stayed on the same path. Squeaking into the 6/7/8 seed and making the playoffs is a treadmill move. GSW were also force feeding their younger guys minutes as well.

but I do recall Kobe saying that not playing his first year really pissed him off and ultimately benefitted him … although he did play and avaeraged almost the same amount of minutes that I think Shaedon should get.

yeah, this definitely looks like a rotation player, lol he earned his minutes just like Sharpe will have to do. Cry more about it.

i'm torn. i agree that a #7 pick should be given at least a clear pathway for minutes. Our roster construction makes it very difficult at the moment. But i need to see some flashes from Shaedon before just handing it to him.

These were Kuminga's (#7 pick in 21) split stats last year from October to April. I didn't follow GS closely enough but was the minutes increase a result of injuries to others?

I honestly don't see why the #7 pick should be given minutes just because of where he was drafted. That to me is like a college football coach
making sure a 4 * recruit gets minutes over a 4th-year walk on. Most good coaches will tell players when they report that their "star" status is all the same now.
They need to earn playing time.

Maxie played 15 minutes pg his rookie year and was 19. 1 year at Kentucky
Jumped to 30 plus minutes on contending team.
