Maybe the $$ alone will motivate Kakko to earn alot more after this extension is up. Has to be one of the lowest contracts for a #2 overall on a 2nd deal.

The assholes running this organization have a lot to do with that. Apparently they think playing the first and second overall pick role player minutes and treating them as role players is the way to win the Stanley Cup

Shocking all these teams didn't offer him $5M per season as someone said teams would/should.

I fully expect Lafreniere and Kakko to play big roles next season, they have to. What I am less sure about is Kakko up to doing so. He needs to stay healthy, and show a lot more than he has.

Again, the argument of saying oh what opportunity has Kakko gotten to prove himself goes south a bit when comparing him to Lafreniere. You can see what Lafreniere will be and what he has done in the same situation as Kakko, and it isnt close right now. I hope Kakko takes a big step up this season, and he earns it. Everyone wins in that case.

Get the fuck out of here. Lafreniere hasn't done shit either. He had 19 goals last year and 31 points. Kakko had 23 points his first year. You still don't have a fucking clue about developing young forwards. You suck off vets every season.

Lafreniere leads the team in even strength goals over the past two seasons. Lafreniere you can also see is clearly ahead of Kakko. Just watch the two play. Again, hard for you to say you were wrong, surprising because it happens pretty much with everything you predict, but we see what we see between the 2.

And I am absolutely an advocate for the kids, I just don't think that is all that matters. You don't want to win, you just want kids and picks and kids and picks. Need a balance. This season will rest on Miller, Lafreniere, and Kakko, with Chytil and Kravtsov in the mix also. How these kids play will decide what level team we'll be. Need some to be very big to be back where we ended this past season.

They are still young so this year could be a good year for both of them. I want to see a cup no too. I don’t care if the players are 19 or 50 , please win a fucking cup

That’s what Kappo has earned so far, a bridge deal. Be thankful he is not a greedy bastard and hasn’t put up 50 points yet otherwise he would be gone.

Believe me, I’m sure other teams contacted Kakko’s agent but it seemed like he was happy at the end the last season playing here. Players generally like playing for the Rangers but I wasn’t sure if Kakko was happy.

You’re sure of jack shit buddy. And yea, I bet Kakko was really happy being a healthy scratch in the playoffs last minute. And, using your own words, I’m sure Kakko was happy not getting used properly and being on the PP unit or getting enough minutes. Just stop. You were wrong on Kakko, like you’ve been wrong before. You’ve been right on things too, but this was a Joey Gallo type of swing and miss. Teams weren’t going to offer Kakko knowing that if they didn’t overpay him the Rangers could just match it. Kakko also hasn’t truly proven himself game in and game out yet. You can see flashes of how good he can be, but he definitely wasn’t a #2 pick. Nothing wrong with that. He still can be a really good player, but his game hasn’t improved enough to warrant anyone breaking the bank for him.

If Kappo shows up in shape he'll get the minutes but if he's sucking wind like most of the young talent was at the beginning of last year he'll get 15 minutes. Kakko would a no brainer tor a GM to throw a $4 mil contract unless they see what GG saw postseason. Instead of moping Kappo should be working his ass off to become the player the Rangers drafted. This is the biggest difference between our prospects and the Tkachuk brothers.

He needs to show up with a chip on his shoulder. Frankly, a $2.1m/yr bridge deal for the 2nd overall pick in his draft class is a slap in the face and should be a wake-up call. Basically just echoing what Porter said.....If he can't get his act together this season it'll be a brief and disappointing tenure with the Rangers.

Rangers are incompetent with forward development.

    Matthew's ice time per year:
    14:39
    17:15
    17:35
    18:18
    18:09
    17:53

So basically starting with year 2 he became a top player on the team

    Brady's ice time per year:
    16:01
    18:56
    18:13
    18:47

Again, take it slower the first year then kid gloves came off in year 2

    and then you have Lafreniere:
    13:52
    13:59

    Kakko:
    14:16
    14:20
    15:26

    What....a.....joke

And i don't want to hear about quality of our team vs theirs, because we have won jack shit in a generation.

yep the coach should have looked at is team and said...Kreider i know you are in the middle of a career year...you should sit out..
no wait..Breadman..you are having an MVP kinda season...we need to give these young kids your minutes...

and sorry..moving kids to their off wing is fucking stupid. The bottom line is too many left wings not enough minutes for all of them.

Good ol Al takes it up the ass for vets shows up. Guess what Al, they didn’t win jack shit last year. Three leading scorers for the Av’s in the postseason were 26 years old, 25 years old, and 23 years old. That’s because when they first came up they played them a shitload and on the first powerplay unit. Trying explain things to some people on this board is impossible when they literally have their head stuck up their ass.

Yup. Those guys have basically been playing 18+ minutes from day 1 while we're still hoping to see LaF break 14 next season in his 3rd year, lol.

Al has a curious infatuation with vets, the same vets that have won us jack shit since they've been here. You'd think we are the 80s Oilers pissing Stanley Cups the way he's sticking up for the vets and moving on from them.

If either of you seriously believe that playing Lafreniere and Kakko 18 minutes a game was going be the key to the Rangers winning the cup this year you have even less knowledge of hockey than what we've already bared witness to.
Besides...only one team wins the cup each year...it may be hard for you to fathom but there are better teams in the NHL right now than the Rangers and it's not just because Kakko hasn't figured out how to play NHL level hockey.
