This is great. I understand the reluctance of some posters not to count on Nas because of his injuries, but I get puzzled when others question his talent. His potential is very high. A young core of Ant, SS, Nas, Watford/Walker is bright. Now they just need to get a young center at some point. And no I am not suggesting trading Dame for one.
I’m 100% with you on Nas’ potential. I’m kind of the camp that wants to lock him up this summer even if it’s slightly overpaying. I think the injuries aren’t a long term problem, and if anything, will help us retain him for cheaper than it’ll be next summer. I think Nas can eventually be a guy that routinely averages 1.5+ bpg and 1.5 spg a year like Gerald Wallace did in his prime. I’m optimistic about his offense, but won’t be super disappointed if all he learned to do was shoot 38% for 3 routinely. Even just before his injury, he was looking a lot better than Wallace ever did on offense imo. Just a matter of getting him to contribute to wins consistently, and that starts on defense. Lock him up before the season starts, start him. If not, start Hart.
He’s pretty well built. I don’t think he needs 20lbs of muscle. He just needs to stay healthy and consistently work on his handle a jumpshot. I think he has star potential. I actually like his potential more than Simon’s
The muscle is important. It will help him absorb the contact better. IMO , Nassir ,with his further development, will be the key cog, other than Dame, to returning the Blazers to contenders. Yes, i think he's that good. He will be the Blazers starting SF, and a force to be reckoned with.
His body is maturing, and muscle weighs more. A 240 lb. ,6-6 in shoes ,freight train who has some serious BBall skills. Sounds Sweet! to me.
Sure, but I still want to know if anyone else heard the quote by Marang or if Inconceivable was just trying to be funny with the Mike Barrett type quote. It seems like every summer someone makes a joke about a player gaining a huge amount of muscle.
When was the last time he had a good season? 2017-18 as a high school senior? Any time we're about a half a decade away from good basketball, it's hard to be too excited about a guy. He's young enough to turn it around, but at some point a guy is just who he is.
Yes, he did say that. On the 7/31 podcast, about 12 minutes in. Said that it's a combination of fully recovering from the 30 lbs he lost from covid, growing into his natural physique, and significantly improving his training/nutrition. Also said he's convinced that Nas will and should start at SF, and that he unquestionably has the size/strength for it now. Separately, also said that Dame's looking like he's in the best physical shape of his career.
Turn what around? His skill or his injuries? Last year he did turn it around. Inonsistent at first but in January when he averaged over 30 minutes a game......he looked good.
His production. His ability to add value to the team. He hasn't made a consistent impact on a basketball team since 2017. You don't think he needs to turn anything around? Really? You think he should just keep playing at the level he has since finishing high school, not getting more than 9.8 ppg nor more than 1100 minutes in a season? This isn't one year. Not two. Not three. It's four years in a row. That's, what, 18% of his whole life? Like I said: he has time to turn it around, but what he's been the last four years is out-of-rotation level production in the NBA.
