https://www.yahoo.com/news/is-there-any-room-for-a-third-party-in-american-politics-142745823.html A new party has been created, led by former Presidential and Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Yang, GOP New Jersey Governor Christine Whitman, and Former GOP lawmaker David Jolly. The Forward Party. It's vision is a unifying centralized group of voters for Americans who want to set aside divisiveness and reject extremism. Will it gain steam?
The problem is that these third parties always have just enough warts that nobody takes them seriously.
And, they usually just siphon votes from Democratic candidates, as Republican constituents are much more likely to toe the line and vote for party no matter what. Do I think our current 2 party system is good? Fuck no. But I also think a moderately competent 3rd party, in this politcal environment, will just usher in the right wing fascist era, by watering down Democratic votes.
The other parties that have been around since the 1970s like theLibertarian Party haven't even cracked the debate bubble yet so I don't see this party doing anything although I'm all for more parties if they can get equal airtime and be included in the election process....they've all been black balled by the big 2 for a long time. That needs to change.
I think if there was a time where a 3rd /4th party could have an impact it could be now. I agree that they need equal air time, debate opportunities, the two party monopoly needs to be downsized.
agree...they also need to shorten the campaign time to a few months and get the war chest out of the process...equal advertisement budget, travel budget, etc...campaign finance reform may help talent actually decide to compete in elections....as it is it's a billionaire's club.
I think Ross Perot had a decent showing for a minority party candidate but people forget George Washington did not belong to a political party...
Calling this a nothingburger is an insult to nothingburgers. 3 washed up politicians with no policy platform whatsoever? Riveting stuff. barfo
