Jose Aldo loses (sorry, Drake), Luke Rockhold uses blood attack on Paulo Costa (not very effective), and Usman bores the crowd for 24-minutes only to be casually KO'd with an all-time head kick. Interesting event.
Aldo looked so gun shy; afraid of being taken down (amazing TDD). Merab sad Aldo told him he was going to retire, I hope he does. He doesn't have a gas tank anymore. Aldo should have won that fight; he defended so many takedowns but was too afraid to throw any strikes. He's got nothing left to prove. Rockhold vs. Costa was weird. I don't lke either fight, but I will say Rockhold won my respect. Hasn't fought in 3 years, 37 years old...and went out on his shield. Dude put on an all time old man performance out there. Costa lacks killer instinct. I don't think he's long for the UFC; I feel like he'll leave once his contract is up. I'm glad Rockhold is retiring; he went out like a G. Edwards looked flat from rounds 2-5. He looked great in round 1. He said the altitude had an impact on his performance; said he couldn't get his body going. He looked dejected in there. I was so furious at the TV; Usman was coasting but didn't look great. Couldn't keep Rocky down, same sloppy striking but Rocky wasn't throwing. I was screaming at my TV for head kicks and punches...and then boom, out of no where with 1 minute left He throws one of the most beautiful fake left to LHK combos ever seen and it worked wonders. Usman out cold. Now, Leon beat him again please!
UFC adopting a modern sports league pay structure would, I think, make champs fight harder. There's been no let up in the major leagues, everything is as good as it's been or better. Happy for Edwards, also happy for Usman who is taking the loss professionally so far.
