How is this punishment versus what Donald Sterling received back in the day when he was forced to sell the Clippers? I don't recall exactly what he did, but I remember they reacted pretty swiftly and forced him to sell the team.
...I was thinking the same seems like apples to oranges on punishment, but very much the same type of behavior.
A recording came out of Sterling admonishing his mistress for taking and posting a picture of her online along side Magic Johnson, saying he didn't like that she was associating with black people. The NBA banned Sterling for life and fined him $2.5 million. The NBA was going to vote to strip him and his wife of ownership, but his wife took control, saying he had Alzheimer's and made a deal to sell the team to Ballmer and promise not to sue the NBA and to release them from any responsibility of suits or legal issues stemming from Sterlings comments. Why Sarver's fine is alot bigger than Sterlings, I don't understand why he too wasn't banned. His acts were just as egregious.
Basically he has no common sense that , that awful, hurtful, demeaning, word, should NEVER be repeated in any circumstance. He obviously works under the "White Rich Man Privilege" rules without remorse.
I'd need to know the context before saying he is "bad as sterling", who likely dropped the N-bomb with malice and intent.
Sarver owns 35% of the team. The rest is owned by minority stakeholders. So, the ownership will likely fall to them for the year...they will be able to make the majority decisions or so it seems. They may work to oust him as owner.
