Ya but is she willing to pay the tax? We know Paul was.

Right now they're hard-capped, so they can only go $6M over the tax line anyway. Seems unlikely to me that there will be a significant upgrade deal available at the deadline that will fit under that threshold.

We'll likely have to wait until next season to find out if this ownership/management team is really willing to go all-in on building a winner.

i'm looking at adding center depth. nurk insurance if you will. we can also unlock that pick we owe to CHI to be able to move in trades.

keon+justise for Zach Collins for example works. Not sure if i'd do it for Collins per se. but that's the kinda deal we'd be looking for-- leveraging our guard depth to add size in preparation for the playoffs.

I posted my initial thought more about Jody not making deals to duck the tax at the deadline by giving up talent for nothing.

There are certain matchups that we will need Winslow for in the playoffs. We would be worse off trading him for a backup center.
Keon, I get it because he is buried in the depth chart if GP2 plays well when he gets back. If he does not play well then you can trade Gary instead. Sucks that Saar got hurt because his length could be helpful in some matchups, but he needs game experience first. Eubanks is fine in some matchups as well.

Who is willing to give us a good big? Because we have average back ups right now.

i'd even be fine with scouring the waiver wire to find someone serviceable. just need a 10-15 mpg capable rebounder who we would use as a depth piece.

I do wonder if Sarr is sufficient as a depth piece, especially considering that Eubanks has performed admirably in the early going, and that we do expect Watford back in short order as well. Or if we're just focused on having a big body, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Whiteside back to be said "depth piece".

I'd like Dwight Howard if we want another center. No need to trade Winslow. He's arguably our best/most versatile defender right now.

Seemed like he did a pretty nice job off the bench for Utah last year. :dunno:

True enough, but lazy stat chasers can be very valuable in second units.

I mentioned this in another thread: if Portland stays under the tax this season their repeater-tax clock re-sets to zero. Meaning that the Blazers could spend the next 3 season over the tax line without paying repeater tax

and with the 'need' to re-sign Grant, Hart, and Winslow, staying under the tax line this season might be really advantageous

If we look like we have a legit chance in the playoffs this year, the prospects of future repeater possibility is irrelevant to me

I'm starting to think Joe Cronin is underrated as a roster builder....and Chauncey as a coach...both these guys should win awards this season for their impact on last season's lottery team..Chauncey should get coach of the month if we win a couple more here in Oct

    that's fine

but I was talking about the perspective of Cronin and Seattle. If they don't believe the Blazers can be a contender this season, and that sure looks to be the case, then protecting options for the next 3 seasons makes a lot of sense considering that Grant, Hart, & Winslow could all be looking for new contacts this this summer. Re-setting the repeater tax clock to zero is no small thing

I think that the olshey era demonstrated thoroughly that selling out everything just to make the playoffs in any single season can be short-sighted

I believe the repeater tax is already reset.

The criteria is being in the tax 3 of the last 4 seasons. Portland has been out of the tax the last 2 ('20-'21 & '21-'22). Therefore, they are in the clear in that regard.

    well that's good then

I still think, with the 'need' to re-sign Grant, Hart (probably), and Winslow, the Blazers would be inclined to have next season as zero on the repeater counter

West Teams better than the Blazers (in no particular order)

    Suns, Warriors, Pelicans, Clippers, Grizzlies

Still not sure I understand this one and why it’s such a popular statement.

Should read “Kawhi Leonard when healthy”.

I used to really want Paul George in PDX. When it was clear his time in Indy was coming to an end. His time with the Clippers changed my mind. With our spanking of the Clippers and the bye-bye being a key contributing factor to that change.
