With less than a month until the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup the Australian men's national team have spoken out against the treatment of migrant workers and LGBTI+ people in Qatar. Whilst the sentiment is admirable, they're not boycotting it either. I was actually hoping we wouldn't qualify. Perhaps this will make the Socceroos even more hated than they already are by the locals. I think any hatred would improve their performance. More than 6,500 migrant workers have died in Qatar since they bribed their way to hosting the World Cup. https://www.theguardian.com/global-...grant-worker-deaths-qatar-fifa-world-cup-2022
I'm boycotting. Not because of Qatar's treatment of migrants but only because soccer is boring to me.
Qatari World Cup ambassador labels homosexuality ‘damage in the mind’ This is going well. The soccer won't at all be overshadowed.
Saw a piece on Real Sports last year about the way they used basically slave labor to build these stadiums. Workers came in from other country’s working crazy hours living in horrible conditions. They tool their passports when they showed up. Tons of them died and buried in mass graves. It was horrible.
Hahahah, I'll be watching but mostly to see the slow motion train wreck of allowing Qatar the world cup. The beer sales is the topper so far, no beer at a sporting event...... Good job at assimilating to the international community and showing the world your not a repressive, backwards nation. Looks like a fun destination to add to my list of bullshit countries not worth my time.
