https://www.nba.com/stats/players/playtype-post-up?dir=D&sort=POSS I saw this stat today and it's absolutely baffling. https://www.nba.com/stats/players/playtype-post-up?dir=D&sort=POSS Nurk is tied with EMBIID for most number of post up possession per game at 5.4. Except he plays 5 less minutes than Embiid, and he's also not freaking EMBIID. He has by far the highest frequency of post up possessions per game at 37.3% (next highest is Valanciunas at 27%). His scoring efficiency? .92 PPP and 42.9% percentile. Legitimately why. For comparison, DeAndre Ayton gets 25.7% of his possessions as post ups, but scores 1.14 PPP and is in the 82% percentile.
I’m ready to move on from Nurk TBH and have been for awhile now. Who do we bring in to replace him? Is Mo Bamba available and worth a look do y’all think?
how does this compare historically? part of me thinks this is an overestimation, while another part of me thinks this is skewed a bit after dame went out.
To bad we overpaid him with that stupid contract. All those Cronin supporters we're pumping up the terrible Clippers trade as good value to dump bad contracts, then Cronin immediately signs two in Nurk and Payton that are much worse. Sucks to root for such a poorly ran franchise with no hope for the future outside a Sharpe miracle.
One couldn't get a vet minimum contract, so the Blazers game the other 70 million when there were no other teams bidding. John Nash would be proud he's not the only complete idiot GM.
More concerned with the defense as of late. Trending in the wrong direction in a stat where Nurk has been very strong:
sure seems like you spent 10 years defending Olshey. I remember you often pushed back when I hammered Olshey for his stupidity. I got lots of olshey push-back Bones, HJ, and you. Now you're complaining about bad management?
Okshey did some good and some bad. I'd rank him as a pretty average GM overall. I thought he deserved to be fired for 2016 alone and especially that Turner contract, as well as Meyers. I'm just not a CJ or Norm hater like many here. Nor do I want change for the sake of change. I was fine with firing Olshey, just feared his replacement is even worse. Some of Cronin's moves have been horrific, worse than all but two of Neils. The Sharpe pick was the single great gamble he did though. Hard to know sometimes how much is Olshey and Cronin faults or Jody / Vulcan.
The refs don't let him play defense. And if he got half the calls Embiid did his offense would be great.
no, none of Cronin's moves have been "horrific", lol. He executed several trades as a deadline process and you can't isolate one part of what he did and gauge it in isolation. It was a decent trade deadline considering the circumstances and what needed to be done. Sure the fuck was a lot better than the deadline Trent for Powell trade while intending Powell to be the starting SF so CJ could remain the starting SG. Now that was fucking horrific I have been critical of just about every contract he handed out last summer. I think he could have secured Simons/Nurkic for a combined 7-10M less than he did. However, while that's more than a quibble, it's not some ridiculous overpay like 2016. I really disliked hard-capping the team for Payton; and I still dislike it and every game Payton misses makes me dislike it even more. While I didn't have a complaint about Little's average salary, I though the 4 year guarantee was foolish considering Little inability to stay healthy....and we saw proof of that today sorry man, Olshey doesn't get a Jody/Vulcan pass. Jody wasn't in charge when Olshey made a max offer to Roy Hibbert or spent his first 2 years assembling the worst benches in the NBA. Jody wasn't in charge when Olshey made max offers to Enes Kanter & Greg Monroe. She wasn't in charge when Olshey traded Will Barton and a 1st for Afflalo. She wasn't in charge when he traded Batum for Henderson and Vonleh. She wasn't in charge when Olshey gave out over 340M in contracts in 2016 and not an all-star in sight. She wasn't in charge when Olshey mismanaged Portland's disastrous 2017 draft. And it wasn't Jody & the Vulcans forcing Olshey to give away SIX first round picks for Zach Collins, Caleb Swanigan, RoCo, & Nance. Geeeeezuz...wasting 6 first round picks on those guys was mismanagement squared. All of these things was Olshey, not Seattle Jody & the Vulcan probably did push Cronin in certain directions, and likely not good directions. I agree that Portland has some funky ownership
I wish he'd make a freaking layup. He's 7 feet tall. How is it possible he's so bad at the easiest shot in basketball next to a free throw.
