Aline passed away a day or so ago in their home in France...she along with her husband R Crumb pioneered erotic, underground comics from the 60s until this day. (Zap Comics, Fritz the Cat, etc)...she was famous for promoting and pioneering women's involvement in feminist and erotic cartoon art. A fearless woman and an incredible artist, her work will live on to inspire many in the future that see underground comic as a "man's" territory....thanks to her that's not the case. There are many documentaries about Robert and Aline and some very fine ones if you're interested in their lives.....she was a constant muse for R Crumbs, Rubenesque female figures. RIP...pancreatic cnncer took her life 11/29 at the age of 74
1994 there was a documentary about Robert and Aline called "Crumb" it's well done. Aline in 1975 published her first comic book series "Twisted Sisters"....her and Robert just finished the covid series.....they were/are prolific artists but always controversial with the moral majority types. They were among the first comic artists to be "cancelled" for sexually adventurous material. Fritz the Cat was pretty much scathed for portraying ethnic groups as cartoon animals. I saw it in the theater when it first came out.
Man, I don't know what R. Crumb will do without her. They have a daughter, I know that much. Crumb is a great film but having watched it once, I have no desire to watch it again. His brother is such a sad character in it.
