Exactly. The best athletes play Basketball and Football and the smartest athletes play Baseball.
    Soccer gets what’s left over.

Been hearing that soccer is ‘ready to take off in the US” since the mid90s. Kids have been playing this game for decades and really not much of a change in the national teams performance. Unless it’s a fluke group coming through, this country will always be 2nd or 3rd tier in the sport and that’s fine.

I see that people are all of a sudden jumping on the France bandwagon. I'm sticking with them even though the next game is England-France - I hope I'm wrong... Although: I'm experiencing an unfamiliar sensation as an England fan. I believe it's called "optimism". I'm sure it won't last. Probably has something to do that England, for all its dreary reputation, is currently the highest goal-scoring team, and has had 8 different scorers.

    Wrong in two respects.
    1. As John Kruk said when somebody criticized the chubby slugger with "aren't you ashamed of yourself as an athlete?", "Lady, I'm not an athlete, I'm a baseball player."
    2. Baseball players are notoriously the dumbest of all American-sports-players. Oddly, I believe Football players are the smartest. Probably because they get paid a shit-ton for 10 seconds of action every half hour.

One thing has changed radically in my time in the US: used to be, Americans didn't even know the names of real football teams. Now everyone has a fave EPL or Spanish League team.

    No.
Your response simply doesn’t make sense and isn’t relevant to what my statement said.
By the way if you really want to know a study was done on this issue. Crazy as it might sound bowling is said to have the smartest athletes if you want to believe they are athletes. That is another conversation.

Japan with quite possibly the worst penalty kicks I have ever seen in international competition. I was rooting for them, but come on.

Not surprisingly, nobody outside of Europe or South America winning a game in the KO rounds. I assume the pattern continues the rest of today and tomorrow.

    Cream rises to the top.

Now we are really seeing that these are the best players and the best teams in the world.

Some separation in performance. Keep Brazil on the list.

Wouldn’t be incredibly surprised, but I think they will need to do it in regular time. It will still be an upset, and I think Spain are decently favored.

Definitely an underrated and seldom discussed team Morocco

I don’t even know anything about their players, but I know they are En Fuego right now.
