Agreed, teachers shouldn't push their beliefs on students. They should teach their students to think for themselves. Critical thinking is imperative to surviving in the real world. It's one, if not the most important of things to learn.
@barfo--I serve with @Chris Craig. I know @Chris Craig. @Chris Craig is a friend of mine. @barfo--@Hoopguru's wife is no @Chris Craig.
Barrett recusing from gay rights case isn't the same as Sotomayor recusing from women's rights case. Barrett had actively campaigned, and belongs to organizations that actively campaign, for LGBTQ people to have no rights. Period. Of course hating gays is one of the reasons she was appointed.
The Extreme Court has clearly already decided a case they are hearing involving a homophobe who is distraught over services she was not asked to provide that her business does not offer. A web designer who does pages for dogs and stuff but NOT life events is thinking maybe in future she might want to do web design for events and maybe a hypothetical gay couple would want a web page for their not yet existing wedding. And she is a Christian so of course she hates gays. It would violate her free speech by "forcing speech" since a web page would imply an endorsement of, oh the horror, equality. The Extremist have made it clear their minds were made up before the case was argued that anyone can deny goods/services to gays if Jesus. I am wondering if that also applies to denying service to Black people, mixed race couples, Jews, immigrants, Muslims? The Extreme Court has made it clear they want to erase not just the 21st century but the second half of the 20th as well. Will they take the opportunity to overturn the Civil Rights Act?
The messed up thing is if someone did either of those, some christian would bring them to the supreme court saying it violates there religious rights and win. Their rights are protected, but everyone elses rights don't matter apparently.
The lawyers for the homophobe, so called Alliance Defending Freedom (variously referred to as Alliance Defending Fascism or Alliance Defending Freedom to Hate) are so persecuted. After arguing in favor of refusing service to gays, they went to a Virginia restaurant and couldn't get service. Exactly what they said their client had the right to do! And they were OUTRAGED!!!
But...but, their rights shouldn't be affected, only those they don't like right? That's how they want it anyway. That's what the supremacist court is doing.
There are going to be some more firebombs dropped this year, I'm afraid... US supreme court end-of-term decisions could transform key areas of public life
