trail blazers desperately need backup pass first point guard (ricky rubio type), so he can run the offense and create for others, get them good looks, instead of iso ball crap (we finally got rid of cj mccollum and now we have cj mccollum vol2 in ant)

dame & ant wont work, were setting up ourselves for disappointment, but i can definitely see why it will be difficult to trade ant, as dame will be 33 yo when the season ends, so they see ant as someone who will lead the team in the future, possibly with sharpe, but we should at least explore trade options and see if we can get all-star caliber forward in a trade involving ant

sharpe and gp2 are okay off the bench, sharpe will grow with more playing time and shooting opportunities, gp2 will do his job, but guys like watford, winslow, eubanks etc are not it and i dont know how to feel about little... he was really good last season, then got hurt and this season he couldnt back to that level and got hurt again

trader joe has shown hes not afraid to shake the three and make big trades, so maybe well see another big trade at the deadline or in the off-season, but my belief is that he & chauncey will try to sort out the bench and hopefully they get something done, we need backup (pass first) point guard, scoring & defense, so at least some of it would be really nice

We really need Trendon Watford and Justise Winslow to have 3s created for them!

This bench unit is atrocious right now. They're regularly playing 3 guys that can't shoot outside of 5 feet, and a 19-year old unseasonably rookie. Putting a pass-first PG instead of Ant with that lineup screws it up even more.

Unfortunately, people are judging Ant based on his performances with said lineup, which is unfair. Comparing him to CJ is ridiculous. He's trying to create off the dribble with 4 guys who can't and 3 of them can't shoot. With the starters he plays much more in the flow of things.

    He is not "CJ 2.0".

i really liked ant last season, he was running the offense and really improving playmaking skills and in some games he did better job of running the offense than dame does, but i dont like ant as a shooting guard and when i say hes cj mccollum vol2, i dont necessarily mean in terms of playing style, but rather in terms of chucking shots and being a selfish prick like cj mccollum was... i simply hate watching shoot first point guard and shooting guard chuck shot after shot, doing "my turn, your turn", like dame & cj mccollum did and not only that, neither of them plays defense and ant is undersized, so yeah, its dame & cj mccollum all over again

our lineup last season: simons, hart, little, winslow & nurk obviously wasnt talented enough to be a playoff team, but the way they played on offense and defense was really enjoyable to watch and you could see players enjoyed it too and chauncey was able to implement his ideas and it looked fine at the beginning of this season and our record (10-4) reflected it, but after that it went downhill for some reason

they simply dont give consistent effort on defense, intensity must be there every game and on offense they just revert to "my turn, your turn", which wont work... if they do the rights thing, were pretty good, if not, were play-in team

    Merry Christmas, ya'll. Rip City!
Question(s): What would it take to get DeRozan? Would he fit? I know Dame and he are friends, maybe he would gel like Grant does? Dame, Hart, DeRozan, Grant, Nurk :dunno:
Could be Ant, Little/Winslow, plus... or include Drummond and make it a different package? GP2 and Drummond off the bench? Happy holidays! :xmastree:

So when Ant is playing with a lineup of Eubanks, Winslow and Watford, who do you want shooting the ball? And when he does try to make a play, all those guys swing the ball like they’re playing hot potato.

Someone that can shoot the ball or defend at a high level or create consistently. Too many players playing right now that don't do any of those three. It's not a high bar.

Problem is our salary situation. The Derozan trade puts the Blazers past the hard cap after filling roster spots which this guy ignores. We need players the compliment our top 3 offensively and can defend. Many of those targets don't get it done.

You're likely looking at cheaper options. Kenrich Williams, Jalen McDaniels (not Jaden), and Naz Reid just to name a few.

I'd love Reid but think he is more valuable to Wolves than anything we have to offer.

Probably, but they do have 2 bigs ahead of him and he is due for an extension. Wish we jumped on him earlier.

I think if they are smart they would try to trade Towns.

Honestly this team has to trade some of their guys that are guards. Again we will have Dame, Ant, GP2, Keon, Nas and Hart that are all 6'5" or smaller (only Hart and Nas are 6'5") and then you have Justise and Shae at 6'6". The only legit big that we have on the roster is Nurk. The next biggest guy that has seen the court this season is 6'9" Drewbanks, then JG, Trendon, Jabari who are 6'8" and GB3 at 6'7" (if we can write off the 4 games that Butler saw 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes which were preceded by his full 9 minute debut in our blowout loss to the Suns).

We're so damn small. We also have a ton of our funds invested into that group of guys who most of the league would see as guards. Over 102M of our 150M team salary is invested in guys 6'6" and under. The average height in the NBA is 6'6.5" and our guys that are listed at 6'6" are not 6'6" they were rounded up to that. So we're undersized... we know that.

I want Shae to continue to see the floor unless we're winning a ring this season because I think he has a better chance at majorly contributing to a ring in the future than some guys that are going to take his minutes. We just need a trade or trades that balances the roster.

That is somebody else's idea. I would rather trade Simons and Nurk than Sharpe and Hart and Payton.

"But if they pull the plug, are they committing themselves to a rebuild or reboot that wouldn’t fit the timeline of their best player, Siakam, who turns 29 in April? Are they over-investing in 21-year-old Scottie Barnes, who has been playing better recently, but has still raised eyebrows internally and externally for his lack of progress in his second season? It’s a big bet to make on a player who doesn’t quite look like the surefire all-star he did as his rookie year played out.
Or maybe they go all in and consider trading Siakam and Anunoby for what would likely be massive returns of picks and young talent. “A s---load” was the ballpark estimate provided by one league insider."
